Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

You need to call them up and after they are determined it is not driver related(they will remote access ur pc), they will setup a service request to replace/fix problems. they then send u a fedex slip with which you can go to a local fedex store and go through the process of packing/shipping. since its still under warranty, you wont have to pay a thing. and if there is a closer repair center to your country, they will ship it there and not USA(probably).

If you order direct from Lenovo you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I ordered a Y500 on March 29th. Received it April 4th. An hour later I was on the phone with tech support due to my touchpad jumped and doing its own thing. I was told I would be getting an RMA for the exchange some time today, monday april 8th. I hadn't seen anything so I called back to the returns department who just put the return through today. I now have to wait 3-5 business days for somebody to contact me about it before I will even be given anything to send the laptop back. I spent $800 on a brand new laptop that is completely unusable out of the box and am having to wait 2 weeks from the day I got it before i will even possibly have a replacement, which may very well have the same issue. This seems like it would be a great laptop if I could only do anything with it. The drivers were uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, did a system restore and it's still happening. So the hardware issue that was supposedly fixed and should only affect models shipped before December 4th as per this page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT076627 still appear to be popping up. Safe to say far from pleased with my entire experience so far.

Wow, you at leat got yours in a decent time frame. I'm in Vancouver, ordered it beginning of March, didn't get until beginning of April. Was not pleased with shipping, but I'm loving the machine.

I agree when Lenovos service being **bleep** though.

It's so frustrating reading these messages. I'm ready to buy a Y500, but it is a lottery as to whether the touchpad works properly.

And you know what? I don't want to buy an £800 laptop and then have to send it back while it is taken apart and then reassembled. That isn't good enough. I want what I buy to feel new and untouched.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

units produced in 2013 seems to be free of the trackpad issues but if I were you I would simply go with asus, they have superb build quality and no trackpad or keyboard issues, we own like 2 asus and 1 vaio and to my surprise my most expensive y500 is the one who has a defective trackpad. I am far past the 90 days return period so am stuck with this thing until I repair/replace it or just sell it. and trust me when I do that I will definitely go for an asus, lenovo should have issued a no question asked major recall for all the units produced before 28/11/2012 as soon as they realized the problem, I wouldn`t even mind waiting for my notebook to be repaired or replaced even for a month knowing for a fact that I am doing business with a company that truely appreciate their customers and that I am in good hands, whats even funny is that I always use to recommend lenovo notebooks for family and friends. but after this I don`t think so.

I'm in the U.K so we get a years warranty to be honest.

But the Y500 is the clear winner for proce/performance here. If I were to go with Asus I'd have to spend roughly the equivalent of $200-250 to get anything like the same spec as the Lenovo sadly.

Got to admit the lack of what appears to be decent customer support is worrying though. Heck I even postd here a few days ago asking about availability of the Y500 here in the U.K - and also why the website doesn't list the second GPU for sale, and that has gone unanswered.

I thought someone from Lenovo would post a reply informing me of where I can purchase the Y500 (their own website only lists 2 models, the i5 version and one with an SSD - which I don't want) etc. But my post is sat a couple of pages back ignored. It has put me close to just waiting and saving money for another brand.

I know thats why I bought the y500, especially after the 400$ off coupon, but after this I would rather pay the extra and have a piece of mind, but regardless I already bought it so no point in regreting in anything, the y500 is an awsome machine if not for the trackpad and keyboard issues, connecting an external mouse to it, you would never have any issues, but I still want to enjoy using it on the go.
