Re: Y500 Touchpad Petition

2012-12-30, 1:11 AM

My hard drive died the first day. Called them up and they tried giving me troubleshooting tips to fix the hard drive...Figured I was just going to replace it anyway and I did. Wasn't going to send it back in for that. Waited for the new SSD to come in, and now it has the touchpad issue. I believe I am now past the 21 day window to return. I really do like the laptop. It has everything I need for the price and more. Just terrible support is the only downfall. If no solution is found soon, I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. Giving them a chance to make things right, it could have been oversight on their part, or faulty pieces from a vendor, it does happen.

Deely, I am leaning toward it being a hardware issue as well. Tried different versions of Elan drivers, and also different version of synoptic drivers. Still the issue occurs.

Lenovo should offer a cross ship option in this case. It's not fair to wait to have to use a product due to an error they are being quiet about.

Agree iam. I'm currently using the laptop with touchpad disabled and have a wireless mouse hooked up. Works wonderfully. Toyed with calling Synapse (Elan?). I'm going to ask for the crossover shipment to do a replacement. If I do that, however, I will go out of my 21 day return policy period. I've already customized the bleepin thing and whatnot. I would get a y580 but the wait time puts me without a laptop to conduct work from when I need it. Stuck between a rock and hard place. There is a repair and servicing location about an hour from me. I may explore that option. I think it needs a new touchpad. I bought a laptop from Lenovo because of online raves about customer service and support and felt it was a great deal for the hardware that came on this system. They're acting just like Dell if you ask me.

Mine is working after tech consultation

2012-12-30, 4:40 AM

Hi. I was having the same problem. I called technical support today, and I allowed the technician to gain remote access to my laptop. She downloaded the drivers from the stored software - rather than from the internet. It has been working since then. Before that time, I couldn't use it at all. The update occurred around 6pm. It is now 12am (just about). I will keep you updated.

Yea, if they have drivers they should update them. The Chinese Lenovo website has more recent drivers than the US site. Still those didn't work. Plus, no way will I ever allow remote access to my computer. Though keep us updated. Thank you for your input. Lenovo Chinese website also has support for windows 7 for the Y500.

PS: If it continues to work, I will post the ID number of the technician who helped me. This is the longest it has gone so far without messing up. Also, I think she found two different pointer drivers on file. She deleted on of them . I'm pretty sure this is what happened. Regardless, like I said - if it keeps working, I'll post her number. She seems to know what she's doing.

There's nothing on my computer (it's new). So, I wasn't worried about her accessing it. I don't t think they are trying to scan your info. They are really just trying to help and go to the next caller. I'm sure they have quotas, and the entire process is recorded.

my tech support guy didn't even offer to download drivers. he went in and adjusted a few settings on the touchpad, one of which was to make it MORE sensitive. hmmm. stored software driver? where is this? maybe i'll call and get them to do that tomorrow. would like to know how that works. still convinced it's a hardware problem

Similar problem with my Y500 just recieved yesterday. Touchpad start to do funky things after 5 mins of use. Reinstalled the driver, no help at all.  I called the technician today, no help either even with the recovery button. Ready to replace it with a new one on Monday. I hope they will fix the problem with the new replacement order. This touchpad issue is really hurting the brand, I hope they know that.

I agree to the Y500 Touchpad Petition
