Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2013-07-19, 22:31 PM

The problem seems to be due to the race condition of  ELAN software and Intelligent Tachpad software trying to read input on the keyboad. Since the Y500 doesn't have a touch screen, you need to disable the Lenove Intelligent Touchpad multigesture features.

  1.  go to Control Panel
  2. click on Intellingent Touchpad  (32bit) , if you dont see this in the Control Panel,  select View by and select "Large Icons"
  3. Slide the green ball that appears in the Intelligent Touchpad software to the left in order to turn of multigestures features. click Done
  4. open the Task Manager ( WIN + X), select startup, and then disable Intelligent Touchpad
  5. you should be set for now

Betreff: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2013-08-21, 0:29 AM

Hey Guys :)

first, sry for my bad English, but its not my first language, i hope you understand me

Today my Y500 arrives, but my Touchpad is a little bit strange.

I have an Y500 with an Synaptics Touchpad, an i7, 2x Nvidea 650M and linux, but Windows 7 i have personally installed.

So now when i use the Touchpad, and i hold my finger on the pad and go to the top or bottom on the pad, the mouse is drifting to the top or to the bottom, depending on where I'm going.

I think this is not normal or ?

is this a Problem like on the elan Pad ?

thx for your help, and again sry for my english :)

The problem is multiple one is requiring newer or a re-install of the drivers.  It is understandable that they want to try this first as it is a much cheaper fix.  The other problem requires a hardware fix.  Mine was a hardware fix which seemed to have worked but I honestly haven't used my laptop tons.  If you read the 108 pages prior you can get most of the story lol.

Go through the motions and if it doesn't work remain calm and persistent.  They should repair it if still under warranty and they have it noted that you did try all the driver crap and etc.  YMMV as some have had better experiences then others.  I decided to buy the warranty <SHOCKER> after the fix since it was cheap.

Touchpad works but its the weirdest one I've ever had. Seems like I have to hit just the right spot or I get like a right mouse button sorts of options.

Problem should be fixed by now its my guess. I think you can assign a signle 2 finger tap for right click command, not sure though.

I did see that option in the prefs for choosing right/left.

But no matter where I touch the pad

It's like I have to touch just the right spot in the 3x4 inch pad

By touching do you mean a soft superficial touch? To right click I just need to make a deep touch until I hear/feel a click, nothing complicated about clicking at the right spot. I guess that my laptop is a different version from yours since I bought it at 2012.

Is your touchpad Synaptics or Elan's?

I have the Synaptics & I've tried a variety of touches, taps, keeping the hammer locked up

Don't have that trackpad unfortunately.

Just to be sure, did you open your trackpad software and look if right clicking is enabled?
