Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I got this problem about 3 weeks ago. I have called tech support twice and had temporary improvement for about 5 hours. I am disappointed that even after a year from this thread's creation lenovo still has not fixed this issue. This problem makes using the computer impossible while the cursor is moving around. all i can do is move the mouse around and try and do some damage control so i doesnt ruin what im working on. i love everything else about this laptop but for $1000 i am frustrated that it has this issue that renders gaming or working on it impossible.

That's weird, is it a brandly new Y500?

If you bought it from store, I suggest you to change it for another one, be sure it has the good touchpad (don't remember if it was synaptics or ELAN sorry, but you can search my posts, I even have a tutorial). If you bought it from the website, its really likely that you need to send your laptop to Texas where it can be "repaired".

I don't have the same model (have an Ideapad), but the same problem with the Elan touch pad. I didn't bother to send it for repairs, after reading here about long waits to get your computer back. Then again, I bought it a year ago, very cheaply. What I do is use my wireless mouse - set the mouse software to keep the last used settings. Then you can toggle the touchpad on and off using Fn+F6 keys. I still have to deal with the issue when I actually use my laptop "on my lap" without the mouse - just don't want to have to move all my personal data off to send it out for who-knows-how-long.

Hope this helps ... until you get it replaced.

This is really annoying me. Due to the recent windows 8 update my cursor disappeared and now that I can't see the cursor it is really making it hard for me to do schoolwork.

ruim - I would start a new thread as this was for the manufacturing defect of the touchpad and you are at the tail end of an 111 page thread :-)

save all your important data and do a afile of your application installation files and serials numbers and do a factory reset, it`s the quickest way to solve any issue, it will save you plenty of time trying to troubleshoot the problem and you can always backup your machine using onekey recovery tool so that if the issue still presists after a fresh install you can restore your old image.

Same issue here. It happened after the computer automatically updated to Windows 8.1. The only other thing other than re-booting is to press Control +Alt+Delete and the mouse pointer re-appears. Need a fix on this right away!!! Frustrating after spending $800.00 on this Ideapad Y500!!!!!!!!!!!!
