Just Woke Up - Still Working

2012-12-30, 11:26 AM

FYI: My touchpad is still working. It only took the technician about 5 minutes to fix the problem. I'll continue to update. I love this computer. You can't get more bang for the buck.

darrren12000, be aware that I actually had it working for like a day and a half (with no changes) before it began screwing up again. I have seen this issue on Windows 8, Windows 7, and Linux on the same machine, so I am almost 100% certain that this is a hardware issue, no amount of drivers can fix it

Lenovo's silence on the matter definitely isn't helping. Would anyone in the USA be interested in filing a complaint against lenovo with the Better Business Bureau? I am not a lawyer but I recall there being one on this thread, can you tell us if this would help?

Thanks. That's why I am still monitoring the situation. The tech told me I could just return it - no questions asked. Of course, I just bought it a week ago. I like it; so, I am waiting a few days. I don't see how you can rule out a software issue simply from your own experience. Given the likely volume of sales, isn't it possible that only a few are having these glitches? I am assuming that thousands of people have bought this laptop. Only a few dozen are complaining here, however.

well the fact that I've seen the problem across 3 different operating systems coupled with peoples' stories here lead me to believe its a hardware issue. I also recall seeing a post on the notebookreview forums where someone fixed the problem by opening up the Y500 and covering the touchpad contacts with electrical tape to isolate them from the rest of the circuit board, which fixed the problem. I suspect excess electricity is generating these "phantom touches"

That is not for the Y500 and it is only a windows specific solution. The fact that this still occurs when using a generic driver is not being addressed

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2012-12-30, 14:53 PM

Hi guys,

I found something that maybe is the key to this problem at least it solved mine. (so far)

My Y500 came with drivers for Synaptics and Elan

There is some install file that looks for the needed driver and install this.
I tested different kind of drivers and I find out that this installfile sometimes install the drivers for Synaptics and sometimes for Elan and even for both. (install a lot of times)

In my opinion there can be only a Synaptics touchpad or a Elan touchpad but not both.

When I install the Synaptics driver the touchpad become extremely nervous It blink by itself and further working is impossible.

This make me think I have NOT a Synaptics touchpad but Elan.

I uninstall all the drivers and starting from scratch.

I found some newer drivers on Internet but I started with the oldest driver.

This driver 11.4.5.1 is some buggy.
11.4.7.1 is better it works most of the time correct.
I try every driver and there is a little difference in options.

I run now 14.1.3 that seems the newest one.

Run the setup driver directly from the X64 directory.

The drivers can be found here http://www.station-drivers.com/page/elantech.htm

My operating system is win8 (not professional) its came preinstalled with this laptop

Please let me now if this solved the problems, my touchpad works OK now.

(sorry for my bad English)
