Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I sent my info to Nine as well days ago. not much back. i guess I'll try again.. If I don't see a resolution by the end of this week, I'm calling for return/refund. I have to have a WORKING laptop inhand at the end of this month for work purposes before surgery.

I have a Y500 with a Synaptics touchpad. After changing the settings the touchpad preformed better. I know this is not a fix for the other Touchpads, but when I scrolled trough this topic I noticed some people mentioning it might be an electrical issues, maybe something with shielding or ground.
I noticed something strange while charging the battery. The casing feels weird. When you rub your finger over the casing it feels like there is something resonating or the housing is under voltage. When you stop charging the battery, the casing feels 'normal'. Maybe this could be related or a different issue.

Does anyone experience the same?

Yes I do. I though it was because of the surface.

But you are right its only when charging the battery.

Weird.

I notice more stability of the touchpad after removing the wire !!

Can others endorse this?

pim, i haven't noticed any strange feel when charging the battery, but i did think it was odd that in all this time i haven't removed the battery except the other nite. and the very next evening, i get keyboard gibberish along with pronounced touchpad issues while it's not charging, while it's charging, pretty much any time it's on.

i hope this isn't something electrical or dangerous and i'm leaving this thing charging at night or in my office....

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

UPDATE!

Sent my Y500 in and was recieved on Jan 3, 2013. Lenovo just statred to work on it on Jan 7th and today the website told me my laptop "is on hold because the Tech staff couldn't recreate the problem." If they can't recreate it or fix it I will demand a refund on the laptop as I do not want it back. All this has happened after 4 calls to tech support already and I'm on the phone with call number 5.

Word of advice, If you sent info to Nine the "lenovo staff member" don't expect anything back because I sent him the info weeks ago.

Good luck everyone. Not happy with tech support service AT ALL. No one knows that the heck is going on.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

Add me to the increasing list of people recognizing the severe touchpad issues that occur with the Y500. My touchpad will lock up and move uncontrollably an time within the first hour (often around only 30 minutes) of use. Putting the computer to sleep alleviates this problem temporarily, as many others have stated.

I find myself in a tricky position, as I am not sure what the do with this laptop. I am really impressed with this laptop outside of the touchpad issue and I have no particular desire for a substitute unless it were a significant upgrade or equitable for a suitable price. I also recognize that exchanging the laptop will likely not solve the problem. My main concern is that if I choose to hold on to the laptop and await a fix past the 21 day return period, tech support will not recognize that I was sold a faulty product should I find the need to return it (given a fix does not arrive in a timely manner). I know this point has been brought up before, but I would truly appreciate confirmation as to the specific details how long I can await a fix without being charged for returning the laptop. Reading through these forums, I have noted that many people sought to return the laptop with varying results from tech support.

But still, even with the Synaptics touchpad, I'm not happy with how this touchpad reacts. It doesn't work the way I would want or expect. I notice that a light touch sensitivity makes my pointer very jumpy. The same if the pointer speed is fast.

The vertical movement is fine but when i scroll horizontal it gets 'jumpy', not only moving horizontal but it makes small vertical jumps. Also clicking is hard because it scrolls when I try to click. I can't change this in the settings....

How do we find the model type, serial number, and build date? All that's on the bottom of my laptop is a Windows 8 sticker, instructions for removing the ultrabay, and a sticker that says "Contains Transmitter Module: FCC ID: <11 digit #> Canada IC: <5 digit #> - <8 digit #> and on the next line a 14 digit number.

I imagine the model type and serial number are easy to find elsewhere in the system itself, but what about build date?

Under the battery you can find that info. I have bios 1.03 but a Synaptics touchpad.  driver touchpad: 16.2.18.0

All,

Thanks for the PMs - much appreciated.     With regard to NINE not having read some of the prior PMs, he has been out of the office on family leave for a couple of weeks.  He will be back tomorrow.

Thanks again to all who took the time to resend data.   Our teams are working on this as a priority.

Thanks

Mark
