Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2013-01-10, 15:30 PM

Business day 3 is today. I am curious to see if I hear from post-sales concerning my replacement.

The problem regarding the touchpad on my system is persistent. I have not encountered any keyboard issues as of yet.

Mark,

It's been over a day since we last heard anything. Have they narrowed it down at all as to what it causing the problem? Do we know whether it is hardware/software related? Keep us posted please.

This whole thing is shocking! I am from costa rica and am going to the US next week and was thinking on buying this same exact model. Its specs are quite amazing for the price, its a shame so many troubles arose. Anyone knows if this problem is affecting only the y500 or are there other models with the same issues? Should i still buy a lenovo like 580 or is it a risk?

btw, excuse my horrible english.

I've ask in PM twice if Lenovo will let us know via email or some other method individually when the fix is available and what the fix is.

All I've goten is 'we'll post it to the forum'.  I don't believe they meant it this way, but it seems as though if we are not checking several times a day it will be our own fault if we miss the specific message regarding their fix.

Shame on Lenovo,

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I just received my 2nd laptop today, 01/10 and upon setting it up within 30 minutes my touchpad stopped working.  It doesn't jump around and click things on its own like people says.. it just stopped working literally.  I restarted the computer and there is no fixes so far.  I exchanged my old Y500 due to CPU overheating issues and it was bios 1.03 with elan touchpad.  There was no touchpad problems on that one but I didn't use it for a long time so I can't be sure.  This laptop came with bios 1.05 with synaptic touchpad... and it stopped working.. Sigh..

J.,

I tried the same version for Y500 on my Y500, but issue still exists.  I assume you have the U510?

This is the Y500 Version: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032565

I'm having the same problem with the touchpad.  It will work for a while and then the cursor starts jumping around.  I have the same problem both under Windows7 and Kubuntu.  Putting the laptop to sleep fixes the problem for a little while.  I'm seriously debating returning the whole thing, but do like it other than the touchpad. Any word on potential fixes for this?

Touch pad acting up right after first boot today ( tonight) I turned on my y500 windows ran an auto update I loged in with in 5 min of chatting on google my mouse started to move around and click on its own. Before my mouse would just move around as if it was drunk, now it has its own life.

I am not sure how much longer I will wait for a fix before I give up and return my y500.
