Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

@Mark

Given the speed of the discussion here so far, I thought it was important to let you know what we've found and what we are doing as quickly as we could - as I'm communicating a bit ahead of / in parallel with some of our actions, I would suggest that if you can delay contacting service until next week, we can have time to complete our internal communications and ensure a more consistent answer provided for resolution of these symptoms.
Hi,,
I contact my seller in Holland he say that he had never heard about this problem.

He suggest to send this laptop for repair to Lenovo (seller send)

But is there a clear solution now, Upgrade the bios to 1.05 and replace the touchpad or what?

Are the spare parts available that they can repair?

I was wondering what causes this problem? Charge build up in the trackpad or something like that? Just curious. :)

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I too recently got a Y500 that has touchpad issues.  It is the elan touchpad.  Reading through this discussion, I'm curious as to what n1smo did to make that computer work.  n1smo, If you're still here, would you mind elaborating on what you did, specifically with the silver tape?  You say it's been working for weeks now.  I know it involves taking it apart but I would much rather keep the computer if I can fix it myself, than deal with sending it back.  Also I'm just interested in what you did.  Thanks.

I spoke with customer service today to discuss options for returning/exchanging the y500. They were willing to match my original coupon/deal and I decided to purchase a y580 instead. ($20 more than I paid for the y500)

y580 model #59359510 (listed for $1,349)

Customer service was polite and accommodating. I think the newer build y500's would work just fine, but I'm going to try the y580. (widi...optimus... gtx660)

hopefully you all have similar luck with your returns/exchanges.

maybe there will be some good deals on refurbished y500's with updated touchpads?

dah5536, If you are willing to charge your credit card again.... they will send you a new y500 with updated bios and trackpad (synaptics)..... then once you get the new one..... send the old one back to get $$$$ refund. (they emailed me a UPS return slip already)

It's a slight pain in the rear to have to float 2 computers on the credit card, but it solves the problem.

I'm pretty sure n1smo detailed their procedure for "shielding" the trackpad with metal tape. I recall seeing photos somewhere? (If I were you, I'd just live with the crappy touchpad until the new one arrives. Plug in an external mouse)

500and2, i can try that with CService this week, if my boss is ok with charging another one then waiting on the credit AND if CSvc extends the same discount. There is a y580 that is also priced $1299, as my original y500 was. I used the DOORBUSTER coupon for $450 off the system. Since they both were/are the same price, i'm hoping they ok that. I also got 1 yr warr/accidental coverage for $39.99 on sale at the time. If they'll extend the same courtesy of discount and discounted warranty, then it should be doable.

Mark, I still haven't heard back from you on helping me with this issue. I have the ok to return the y500 but i need help in getting the y580 lined up.

500and2, also...which sales number did you call? i have a few numbers but not sure which one would handle negotiating a deal since i already have authorization to return the y500. I've got at least three different numbers....

Customer Support number says 866-968-4465.

I would like to find a number to a team that will help me. I wasn't too impressed with the last guy I spoke with regardless of him sending me the quick email with return label. He got upset when i asked him about exchanging for the y580, didn't seem too cooperative and didn't even offer to let me buy the replacement unit.

i could NOT get the Sales team to honor my original coupon deal, quoting that the y580 has a Blue Ray drive. The best they can give me is $400 off and then I end up paying $50 MORE for a system with comparable specs, with WiDi that was supposed to be on the y500, with switchable graphics. The only reason they won't  honor my original discount is the Blue Ray player? I swear I saw just a few days ago that one of the y580's came with a DVD not Blue Ray. Now there are none with DVD, only Blue Ray.

At this point, HP is looking pretty good.

to add more to this, i wonder if the Sales rep really knows the y500 specs or the specs on the one i ordered. she said the y580 was a better unit, it came with full HD...lol!! my y500 has Full HD too!! i pointed out the ONLY difference was the Blue Ray and my y500 has a regular DVD, plus the y500 has the ultrabay.. She kept saying the y580 was a better machine. lol!!!!!! ok. then i pointed out to her the aggravation of the non working touchpad, the keyboard problem and my lack of WiDi and Optimus as advertised. I guess that's not worth $50 to keep me happy when I was more than willing to charge the y580 today, make a sale and already have a return auth for the y500
