Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2013-01-16, 0:32 AM

it is annoying to float two computers. my boss ok'd me doing the y580 and i just decided to eat the extra $50. gotta have a working laptop thru this month and next ..and i need one that (hopefully) works so i can send the y500 back. at least 2 sales reps ive talked to today quoted as saying the y580 is a better system. i like the y500, but that touchpad, keyboard then lack of WiDi killed it for me.

FYI to those doing a replacement with another model. you WILL have to purchase the model if it's  not a y500 and may not get offered your original discount amount that you got on your y500. i'm less annoyed than i was earlier because i figure at least it's still coming in at under $1000 for the y580. HOWEVER, let's hope and pray there are no major issues with this one. at least it doesn't look like touchpad issues with the y580

@dah5536 Hey, does this video works to disassemble it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmVYvJhlhL8

Also, is there some kind of mechanism that voids warranty or something like that? Just in case. o.o

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

Hello I just received the Y500 (95412VU) yesterday. Well I am having issues with the touchpad too. I can't believe that they can have an issue this prevalent and still be shipping them out with the problem. I am going to be calling customer service tomorrow to see what my options are. Does anyone have a customer service number where the associates primary and first language is English?

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

So an update to my situation:  I took it apart and added some electrical tape where I thought interferance might occur.  I took a picture before putting it back together.  Unfortunately it started to act up again after 15 minutes or so.  I'm still lost as to why though...

@MartinJimenez: I also used that video.  It is a good visual guide for taking it apart.  Note, however, that the guy in the video uses the Y400 instead of the Y500 so there may be slight differences.  I mainly used Lenovo's hardware maintenance manual found here: Maintenance Manual.  Let me know if you have any questions!  Also, as for the warranty, I'm not sure.  I haven't found anything that explicitly said do not disassemble computer, but I also don't know that it DOESN'T void the warranty...

@valvulita:  Keep us posted on your situation.  I only put the tape on the touchpad side where I thought the capacitor would be.  But as I understand, you put the tape on the capacitor itself.  Perhaps that is a solution?

Also, a question to everyone:  what model number of the Y500 does everyone have?  I have the 95412VU.  I saw that jaryem had the same model number which made me wonder if the problem is only with this model number.

@djeff31 what model is your Y500? I ordered it on 27/12/12 and its been shipped to UPS so it should get here soon. I'm hoping I'll get synaptics too but my biggest concern is the keyboard issue, it sounds really bad. Please keep me posted!

MartinJimenez,
The support person just said it was in Texas somewhere. I haven't sent mine in yet -- I know a few others have sent theirs down there and I am eagerly waiting to hear if the fix works. I'm not sure if they have a supply of replacement parts yet so I fear my unit would sit in Texas for weeks waiting for parts. It would be nice to get an official response from Lenovo on the status of parts for fixing this defect.
