Try this with the newest driver.

The software installs but after restart the Synaptics software could not find the device (seems logical because I have Elantech)

After push the buttons the touchpad goes immediately wrong.

The Synaptic drivers are loaded but does find the device means that the touchpad runs only on the original Windows drivers.

Therefore the multi-finger does not work either.

So I guess You have a real Synaptics touchpad.

After reading all this, I hope that they will replace the touchpad in my laptop.

I've sent it in for repair a few days ago and added a letter to it linking to this forum thread (and specifically Mark_Lenovo's reply on page 42), but after reading the posts where nothing is done, I'm getting a bit anxious.

@GBSmulders

Wish you all the luck of the world. Did the same thing, no use. All they did was a stress-test for other hardware components except for keyboard and touchpad.

@GBSmulders How much you-ve been waiting?

And if you don't mind, where was it sent? Do you live far away from that repair center? Thanks!

@dwgjr330

Wow, hope gets fixed soon then!

I will try to leave my lap on Friday or Saturday next week. As I am currently living in texas, I guess that it will be *fast*. Hope that you keep us informed about times and conditions of your laptop!

I believe someone had mentioned this already but maybe it is worth revisiting.  How many of you with the touchpad problem does not have Google Chrome installed?  I say this because someone had mentioned that Chrome was the cause of the touchpad issue or at least it magnified the problem.  I could almost swear that the touchpad feels a little better in Internet Explorer.  Just a thought.  I'm not going to use Chrome for the next few days and see what happens.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2013-01-20, 5:20 AM

So I tried a couple more things to fix my touchpad. Today I openned it up again and I decided to remove the electrical tape I had placed. Something I noticed about the tape was that it kept being drawn to my skin via static electricity. Which means it held a charge from when I turned it off. My thought was that there was some static buildup that wasn't properly getting grounded. It looks like the silver tape is supposed to ground the touchpad by connecting it to the case. Since there was some leftover charge on the electrical tape I removed, I thought it wasn't grounding properly. So I decided to remove the tape and replace it with a cooper wire. When I turned the computer on, immediately the touchpad freaked out. (This never happened to me before. It always took some time before the touchpad started freaking out.) Based on that, it would seem like the wire made it worse, or perhaps INCREASED the interferance on the touchpad. So the next thing I did was remove the tape all together. I have not had any problems since and the touchpad actually seems to be responding better even. I don't know why this would have helped exactly but it seems to have helped. Granted it has only been a few hours so I will post an update soon if it still works, but for now, still working!

TL;DR:
As far as it looks like, removing the silver tape fixed the problem.

@n1smo I do not have google chrome installed. My touchpad started to freakout after a week, i think I was using firefox. But its pretty unlikely that freaks out due to that imo! o_0O

@dah55360 Woah, to actually is charging from the lap itself? Thats curious, as the touchpad doesn't get buggy until i keep using it for a certain amount of time, otherwise is fine.
