So what is it guys, is removing the silver tape the possible solution to this charade?, no problems? :smileytongue:

@cloverz. I would think it would seem weird if the computer was indeed heavier and warmer than your last one... You could continue to monitor it, but I don't think you need to worry about it... However, as for your touchpad, if it is and Elan touchpad and manufactured before the 28th in November, I might be skeptical... Hopefully it won't act up for you! Let us know if it does though...

@MartinJimenez: I am not sure about if they have replacement touchpads... I heard from some earlier posts Lenovo was waiting to get those in? I am not really sure about that. As for removing the silver tape, all I can say is that I have not had any problems so far and it has been days. I will post as soon as I do though. But so far so good. :)

Anyone else been having success with removing the silver tape?

And there we go, the new unit with the ELAN touchpad is now malfunctioning, I'm furious. This is absolutely ridculous it wasn't enough to have the problem in the first place, but now after recieving a replacement I get another one. I'm not one to demand kickbacks, but now that it's round two someone better recitfy this situation.

Quick quesiton. The lights under my F11 key appear to be uneven. Like each button has lights on both side of the button, F11 appear to have lights only on one. Does anyone else have this?

I think its even MrSnuggleBottom. well it looks like the ther F buttons at least.

It seems that Ill try the silver tape stuff, if they are delaying the repaird for so much time, then Ill try this.

What makes me think is, if the solution were that simple, why wouldn't they told us about this? Perhaps its a bad idea to encourage customers to open the lap?

I had a faulty Y500 as well.   is it safe to change it now to the newer model of the Y500? (can i asked for a change and not a repair?)

Did they fix ths issue (and what Touch-pad will they send?)

Should i maybe just ask for a Y580 (are they safe to buy?)

Or just get a refund and say bye bye Lenovo?

Seems there is still NO fix and Lenovo is very quiet about this.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I finally got to speak with a reasonable sales rep that allowed me to exchange the Y500 for the Y580 (#59359510) and keep the discount I used on the Y500. He was hesitant at first because of the Blu-ray drive in the 580, but called me back after 5 minutes and said it was a go! The wait period for it is over 4 weeks, but it's worth it for a better (WORKING) laptop for the same price.

I might call back and try for a free extended warranty or something later since we can no longer be sure we're purchasing quality products, and I'm being inconvenienced (sort of at my own doing) when I should already have been a happy customer to begin with.

Good luck to everyone exchanging and repairing their Y500s.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

Just curious FiveEighteen....

when I called back on Jan 9th and tried to do an exchange, I was told I could only exchange a y500 for a y500. no help offered except to return the defective y500 and do a refund. so I got an RA, they emailed me return shipping labels....

on jan 15th, I called again because I can NOT be without a laptop to remote into work from home after Jan 29th. tried to do an exchange to a y580. was told it wouldn't be an exchange, I would just have to buy the y580 outright. ok. fine. then I asked for a pricing that was like my y500 because I chose the y580 with a retail price exactly like my y500, without coupons etc.

I was told that the best they could do was within $50 of what I paid for my y500 because the blu ray player is a $250 piece of equipment and the manager wouldn't approve giving me the same discount for a system with a blu ray player. when I told them that I had seen other orders on the community forum approved AND that I was unhappy with a defective product, they wouldn't budge. I ended up ordering the y580 and still paying more (not happy about it, but what can I do? need a replacement computer).

I ordered it on 1/15. the order ship date at that time was 1/19, then my order just sat til I called in on 1/17 because I noticed the est ship dates on the y580 model 59359513 was now 2/4. at that point, my order showed up, dropped, whatever you want to call it and now the date is 2/4.

I was also told that NO SALES team member had authorization to exchange a y500 for a y580 at the same price as the y500 and that it wouldn't be an exchange anyway.

so now i'm sitting and waiting on the y580, still stuck with the faulty y500 with a bad touchpad I can't use, keyboard that still acts up, an RA that is running out....and I never got any response to my PM's to Mark on my recent situation. not real happy about that. at this point, nothing to do but wait. I don't have the option of sending it back and repairing. it doesn't have WiDi anyway and I can't use the touchpad as is and my keyboard is funky if I enable the always on USB port.

I wouldn't keep it for that touchpad issue anyway. there's something messed up about that. so, stuck with external mouse and laptop that's not completely mobile because I have to take the stupid mouse with me everywhere.

I talked with 3 reps and none of them willing to give me an exchange on Y580. I ended up paying $50 more for a Y580, with blueray but no 16gssd. So somehow I lost $80
