Typing on my Y500 still... faulty touchpad highlighted and cleared the two paragraphs I just wrote... ugh, let's try this again.

 

I tried calling sales,  post-sales, being directed back and forth between tech support for 7 straight business days before I finally ended up with a sales rep that was able to help me. I was extremely frustrated and today was the 21st day after purchase, so if I hadn't received the help I did, the laptop would be on it's way back already to avoid a restocking fee. I'm pretty sure my rep was just an average sales rep, since he hung up with me for about 5 minutes to go "see what he could do." I didn't say or do anything fancy though; just told him I had a Y500 with the faulty trackpad and had a case # from the support team, and he did the rest. Like I mentioned earlier, he first said it wouldn't be possible since the Y580 has a blu-ray drive, but I just stated that they were the same price so I didn't think it was a problem. Apparently the manager he spoke with gave him the OK to put it through. I suppose it wasn't really an "exchange" since I did have to provide my credit card number to purchase the Y580, but he was able to match the price of the Y500, and I will be reimbursed once I send this one back in. The downside is that I received my  confirmation email with the order #, and the estimated ship date is 5/5/13!! You might have paid more, but you will at least have yours in this quarter of 2013! Lenovo really needs to put the people in this situation on a higher priority, but they seem to just be worrying about making NEW sales and not helping the past ones.

FiveFifteen, thank you for sharing your experience. My y580 estimated ship date is 2/4/13. This makes me feel a little better.

I just dropped mine off at UPS to return. I had it for less than a week and I couldn't be 5 minutes without my touchpad freaking out.

 

I ordered HP. Same exact specs as the Y500 I had.

Try using Fn + F6 and deactivatte your touchpad with this.

I'm out too -- sending it back for refund.  I would have kept it if there was some hope of getting the elan touchpad fixed/replaced but Lenovo seemed to go into radio silence about this issue.

Ok so I have had my y500 for over 10 days now and have n't really noticed any real problems so far. I have the model with 16gb ram + bluray+16GB mSSD and Elan touchpad. I believe someone with this same model reported problems earlier. Manufactured Nov 24th 2012. So I was waiting to see the touchpad prbs all these days as Mark_Lenovo confirmed the dates. Only thing I did was disable some settings for touchpad as someone mentioned in earlier post.

 

Is there any stress test or something that I can do to replicate the issue. I am not a gamer. I only have few Vm's setup on this. ram and i7 were the only reason I bought this.

 

My question is should I wait few more days or as exchange/return for refund? Is the 90 day return policy valid for all y500 owners?

Also what is invoice date? Is this when ordered placed or delivery date etc..? Please advise.

FiveEighteen, are you holding onto the y500 until the y580 arrives? wow. May seems a long time down the road. I guess if I run out of my 30 day return UPS label period, I can just call and get another one if the y580 doesn't get here before Feb 9. I started reporting problems with my y500 barely a few days after I got it and got a case number just before the 21 days period. Im getting tired of calling and reporting/checking on the new order/ etc. I just would like a laptop with a working touchpad that I can be mobile with. and a fully working keyboard....and WiDi so I can send to my tv. if the y580 lives up to its billing, i'll be happy.

 

I tried to get price matching on my original coupon and was kind of peeved when the rep pointed out the Blue Ray thing and then told me the y580 was a much better machine. hmmmm. the y500 I ordered and the y580 Im replacing it with are EXACTLY the same retail price not including any coupons. I was really looking forward to using the Ultrabay on the y500 but I guess i'll settle for working touchpad and keyboard

That's what I told my rep as well. I'm really not even sure why they are the same price, but seeing as they are, I feel like they should honor the coupon match for everyone. The ultrabay interested me as well, but I think I'll be just fine with blu-ray and better graphics (if it ever gets here lol).

I'm not sure if they're going to allow me to hold onto it. He kind of got off the phone quick after putting the order through. I'm calling back tomorrow to ask when I actually have to send this one back by, and to see if they'll do some kind of priority shipping for me, or maybe even give me an extended warranty for the inconvenience, if nothing else.
