Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I wish Mark would return his pm's also. I purchased my unit before I left the country on work and now the only way they will be willing to do anything for me is if I pay to ship it internationally to a friends house and then they will send him a pre paid shipping label and then when it comes back to him I have to again pay for international shipping back to me. No one knows how long this will take and how much it will cost me. They are not willing to do anything to try to compensate me for these losses and of course this unit is about 1.5 months old so I can't simply return it.

I would call your credit card company (assuming you bought it with that) and raise hell and call lenovo and say that is is a huge problem, referencing Mark's post on pg42

I am disappointed lenovo has brushed this under the rug and is not being more proactive about it, or compensating (extended warrantee) for the defective products- If they did that I would most definitely keep my lenovo and not return it.

I received my Y500 yesterday and can confirm it still has the same issue and is still coming installed with the Elan touchpad. My order was placed on 1/20 (I will say, besides the horrendous touchpad experience, this was by far the best shipping experience of my life).

I ordered this model on the belief that the issue was remedied in newer models and also that it really couldn't be as bad as people say it is. Well, the issue has not been remedied and it is that bad. It's literally unusable - I'm not exaggerating at all. It clicks and moves the pointer at random.. it opens, closes, deletes, moves things all over the place. It happens non-stop. My system tray icon tells me that it is recognizing my finger as using the touchpad, even when I'm not close to the computer. It won't go to the screensaver because the mouse is always moving, and I can't leave my pc on or it may delete my important information. The rest of the PC seems fairly nice, but I'll have a better idea if/when I can actually use the device I paid $1000 for.

After speaking with Lenovo customer service, they are going to send me a new model. I was guaranteed that this model would have the Synaptics touchpad and would not be a refurbished model - it would be brand new. I was also guaranteed that if this model was defective, I could send it back for a full refund. Lenovo is also letting me keep the defective device until the new one arrives. The only issue I have is that the DOA estimate was wishy-washy, at best. If it ends up being 1/3 of a year out like some people have reported, I'm jumping ship ASAP.

I want to stick with you on this PC, Lenovo. Please, work with me to make that happen.

Apti, could you please communicate us the date your system was manufactured? Tx.

Darrren12000

You had the 954135U with the 16gig model?  It came with Synaptics touchpad and you still returned it?

Mine just shipped today and 2-3 other have confirmed that they ordered the 954135U (16gig) model and it came with Elan Touchpads.  I specifically asked and waited 5 minuets for a response from their representative that this model came with Synaptics.

How bad was the touchpad?  I might just order something else and then return this POS once I get the other laptop.

Let me know,

Thanks

@Makak

Order Date: 1/20/2013

Manufactured Date: 11/25/2012

They are still sending out defective models to customers, even while knowing for a month that they are defective and what the cutoff date was.

:smileymad: There's a word for that: dishonesty.

Quote from Mark_Lenovo on 01/11/2013 (page 42): After careful investigation, Lenovo has determined that a portion of Y500 systems with Elantech touchpads manufactured in November prior to 11/28/2012 could exhibit abnormal touchpad response characteristics. This is isolated to the Elantech touchpad assembly on these systems. Y500 systems manufactured after this date should not be affected.

Well I returned mine yesterday.  Can't imagine I'll be shopping here again.

For people who were allowed to get the Y580 rather than just returning the defective y500 please post back here as to what your experience with that machine is like.
