Why are they keeping it so hush hush?

why cant they just come out and say yep we messed up and we will do this for everyone that bought a y500 between these dates- I would have so so so much more respect for the company.

Instead they are dodging and ducking this like we are inconveniencing them. I mean heck we did buy their 'top of the line' machine for a reason...

On the 30th my computer will have been sitting in some warehouse 'waiting for parts' for a WEEK not a weekend or 3 days a whole WEEK! wth

ARE YOU LISTENING MARK??

the only way I will not return my computer is if they replace it with a new y500 (mfg in Jan) with a symtatics(sp) touch pad- other than that i will gladly take my business elsewhere and be sure to mention to all who ask how horrible and inconsistent this support has been

EDIT:  they are waiting for the top covers to come in for the repair- dont know when that will happen... but this includes the touchpad assembly- they are STILL not offering any compensation etc

You need to stop worrying about them and worrying about YOU!

My credit card finally got the refund posted today. I am totally free of Lenovo. I wish you guys luck. Call and ask for a REFUND. There are a lot of good computers on the market. Toughen up and assert yourself.

Get a refund! Why are you dealing with them? This problem is almost 3 months old.

Do you know any other laptops with the similar features for a similar price? suggestions? Dell? Sony? Toshiba?

Don't wait for them to call! Hold on as long as it takes.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

Was looking into this yesterday, due to the fact that I have a Y500 on order before I learned about this issue. Hopefully mine does not come with the Elan unit. However, oh well.

Quick google searching of  Elantech touch pad problems yields a few laptop manufacturers that use and have had lots of complaints about the touchpad problems, looks like it is for certain related to the Elantech they've used. Mind you, Lenovo's returning/handling of the issue seems a bit lazy, but they're not the only ones in the boat with the Elantech.

I'll see when I get my machine, was ordered on the 22nd, so hopefully it's a newly built unit, rather than one of these 1314145 returned faulty units. I'd imagine they just slap all these back into recirculation. hah

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2013-01-29, 16:09 PM

I signed up just to write on this thread which I've been following the last couple weeks. I purchased a Y500 on 1/8 and was shipped (you guessed it) a laptop with the dreaded ELAN touchpad with a mfg. date of 11/24/12. It, of course, was faulty and I called Lenovo for a replacement after reading the comments on this thread.

After spending quite a bit of time "troubleshooting," they sent me a new Y500 before I even sent the old one back. For those wondering (like I had) if this would solve your problems - IT DOESN'T! My replacement, ordered on 1/21 (by this time, the issue should be well known) had a mfg. date of 11/26/12 with another faulty touchpad. I called them yesterday and got a full refund (no need to pay the restocking fee).

Lessons learned:

- If you get a replacement, the replacement will be shipped before you ship the old one back

- Your replacement may still be pre 11/28 and still have a faulty touchpad

- If you decide to get a refund, they did not charge the restocking fee (I hope they won't be restocking it anyway) - keep in mind that I was still within 21 days of my original order so I'm not sure what would happen after that

- One tech I spoke with told me that all of the laptops he has owned have done this, including his MacBook and encouraged me to just turn it off and use a mouse (which I was doing). I informed him that NONE of the laptops I've ever owned have done that and if it they do, then something is wrong. His MacBook is broken in my book and so was the Y500

Good luck everyone. I'm sure it would be a great laptop if you can wait for it to get serviced. I needed the computer for school and could't see waiting an unspecified amount of time.

Good luck getting a newly built machine.  I ordered mine on 1/21/2103 and I recieved a unit that was built on 11/25/12. So they are still sending out older machines with the Elan touchpad.  First thing I did when I got the machine was remove all the crap software I didn't want, uninstall the touchpad drivers and then updated to the latest ones (11.7.8.5) from the Elan website.  I've used it for about 3hrs so far and have had no troubles.  I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

Good luck!
