Hello,

I got today a new replacement at the shop. This is now my 3rd in 7 days.I had with my first y500 touchpad problems, with my second and gues what, i just started my 3rd, can you believe it?? My 3rd in a week and yes after 1 minute the touchpad started doing crazy stuff, its showing that its touched, i have no fingers on my whole laptop.
I have nothing to say than stay away from this laptop.

Best regards,

To be fair,  i bought my first one on december 22, so 6 days ago, i had the toucpad issue after 5 minutes or less. I got a replacement at 24 of december and again less than 5 minutes. And today i got my 3rd in a week!! And believe it or not, the moment my laptop and windows 8 started, so when i was on my desktop, the touchpad started acting crazy and its telling me now that the touchpad is touched....im sooo angry..

I'm really tired of this iissue. The touchpad makes it really hard to do anything without plugging in an external mouse each time. i've tried 4 times just to type this and the cursor is all over the place. defeats the purpose of a laptop.

Lenovo support will be hearing from me this weekend or as soon as someone can figure this out. i'm thinking i just want to ditch this laptop and go with another type. Y580 i guess or a yoga with touchscreen, since it would seem Win 8 may be the issue and no touchpad will work with it. Right clicking sets mine off and the only thing that makes it quit is closing the laptop for a few seconds then opening it back up. Seems to reset it.

I've recently cancelled my Y500 order after reading this thread. This is extremely concerning that Lenovo would allow such a major defect to pass through quality control, be it software or hardware related.

Are the Y400's experiencing the same touchpad issue?

Ok, here am i with an update.

I returned mine unit to MM store. Since problem was not reproducible in two mins, they kept laptop to confirm malfunctioning touchpad and promised to call me back. They called me today with news that laptop is ready. I really didnt expect that this was fixed, but went there anyway. Lady was pretty unsure what has been done on it, but she told me that some software was updated. I went home thinking that i will reproduce issue within 10 minutes, but was not able to do it for a whole day.

I saw that elan driver version is the latest as the one already mentioned somewhere along this thread. Maybe they also put BIOS update, but i dont have other version to compare to. I will update this thread in a day or two, to confirm that issue has been completely solved.

And i almost forgot. Wifi connection drop doesnt occur anymore. Isn't that a miracle.

Best.

Congrats on that! Please let us know what touchpad driver version you have. Also is yourHd400 visible in device manager?

I too am having a touchpad issue. It becomes very erratic at least twice per day. It clicks and opens things on its own. It can create hazards. I was looking up things in my program files, and the cursor almost deleted things on its own. This is annoying. I have the 3-year in-home warranty and I'm calling for service today. Here's some advice (from an attorney -- moi). First, please fill out the email they send you after a new purchase alerting them to this problem. Second, if you call, and the person claims not to know about the problem, ask for his/her ID Number and Lenovo email address and send a link to this thread. This is very important. It will put them on notice. Third, document your contact. It is best to use email; also make sure you have the ID number of anyone who talks to you from Lenovo. Fourth, finally, take it back to the vendor. If you are within the first year, they should give you a new unit. But if the problem exists in the models, then you will end up with the same thing. Personally, I love this computer; so, I am not returning it. But I will not tolerate them playing dumb about this issue. Don't let them get away with it.
