Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

OK.  I have finally received a laptop made after 11/28/12.  I just opened the box on my third Y500 since December.  My new model was manufactured on 12/20/12, so it will have the Synaptics touchpad.  I am satisfied.  Took long enough though and I am still concerned about how they originally tried to send me a replacement weith the same faulty hardware.  Hopefully no need for support for a long time, or ever!  Good luck to all in getting your new Y500's or refunds.

For advice, all I can say is, if you're under the 21 day return period and have a pre 11/28/2012 ELAN machine: call support and get a case number for the touchpad, faulty or not (it will be soon enough).  Call post-sales with the case number and have them ship you advance replacements until you get a Synaptics model.  Otherwise you have to deal with the depot, at which point I would have returned for refund.

This is the best route to go, and just keep returning until you get what you paid for!

And yea, I am surprised Lenovo doesn't address their customers individualy.  There is no excuse for that,  I don't want to hear there are too many people to contact, as far as tech support is concerned this problem doesn't even exist!

But I do find it hilarious that Lenovo sees it as a priority to have the mods of this forum delete many posts from this thread.  God forbid people purvey their disappointment, anger, frustration etc with their lousy experience from this company.  I'm sure this post will get deleted too.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I got my machine on dec 15th. I did not got any issues in the beginning but later it was working wierd. I also checked this post later and realized that most of the people with Elan touchpads had the issue. I send my machine back to lenovo on last Monday (Which they recieved on thursday).

They replaced my touchpad with synaptics touchpad and send it back today ( so within 5 days after they recieved, i got my laptop back)

Now testing with synaptics toupad and it does appear to working fine. So I would really rate well lenovo on as good customer service in this issue. But in future they need to watch out for such risks with new products.

Still I love my Y500 :).. A lot better than my girlfriends Y580 :)

Final update:  It works, have not had any issue since relocating the ground.  Elan touchpad working as it should, this will be the last time I post here.  If anyone else wants to see what I did, just do a search for my posts.  Good luck.

Update: For me, it has worked since removing the silver tape.  Seems like n1smo and I had different solutions that worked.  Don't know exactly why the different solutions worked, but I'm just glad it works for now.  Thank you, n1smo for all of your help.  Good luck to you and everyone else on this forum.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I received my Y500 yesterday, and the Manufacturer date is 2013 Jan 23. So I guess my unit is from a newer batch which has the touchpad problem fixed.  I am not sure which type of touchpad is in this unit, but so far I have no problem with the cursor dancing or anything irregular about it. I do notice there are lots of name of parts and their location printed saying "Canada." So far, so good.  If this continues to work, it will be a keeper in my book because the keyboard is very good, and I like its backlit red color. Overall, this is a fairly well built unit with nice screen, fast an quiet (I am not a gamer) that hopefully will last a least for as long as my last Lenovo Idea laptop (5 year old) which is still running 24/7 as I write this, and it has never let me down. Oh, and the speaker on the Y500 is very clear and crisp (not too much bass, as expected from its size), better than the Harman Kardon in my other Toshiba laptop. If I find anything new, positive or negative, I will let you all know as I continue to use this Y500. Going through reports about the Y500 here gave me lots of information about its pluses and minuses, and prepared me to take appropriate action should I need, and for that I thank you all.  As for Lenovo, it is sad (for five minutes!) on my part that it takes quite a long time to try solving and taking actions with regard to the touchpad problem.  I hope Lenovo will traighten out all issues with customers who have problems with the touchpad to their satisfaction as this is its opportunity to remedy its less than spectacular public relation manner which is unfortunate.  In this day and age, bad publicity is not a good thing for any company that wants to prosper especially when it is about to become public.

For the record I still haven't been refunded. I was told 2-3 business days and tomorrow is 5. This is when Lenovo received my broken Y500, not when I sent it back. I made sure UPS printed the receipt for me, so I could track it.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I think I might have some good news.  (???)

After receiving and returning a defective Y500 in the end of January, I waited until January 31st to order another one.  It was supposed to ship by the 8th or so, as I recall.

However, I just got an email saying that shipment has been delayed, and the new estimate seems to be Feb. 19th.

I'm being an optimist and chosing to believe that this means they are holding back orders to make sure they aren't shipping defective laptops anymore.  (I'm in the US, if that matters).
