Is it just me or because of windows 8?

What is the upper right corner of the touchpad supposed to do in other versions of Windows?

@n1smo

the mouse should move if you slide your finger thru the touchpad on any part of it ;) , as simple as this.

about 1 square cm has no function (mouse doesn't move on this part)

Btw, they replaced that sh*tty Elan with a synaptics touchpad called Synaptics 1.1V on SMB or something.

Much more sensitive, not draggy anymore but still not the best but usable. Maybe it'll change after some settings.

Even the RAMs got replaced. Weird that they didnt found this fault last time...

Well, besides I have to pay for the service hotline (called in 3x),

waited 1,5 months in total (first "repair" took 10 days, 2nd 1 month),

got scratches on display frame cos of repair (!!!),

have all my stickers removed from palm rest,

and still no Intel HD graphics

I think this machine is ok.

But if I had a choice between a new system namely y580 or full refund provided by lenovo, I would choose the latter one.

All in all, I am not gonna deal with lenovo anymore. In the future, my purchase will be definitely another brand.

Well, hope everything works fine. If not, I will get my money back, decided by law in Germany!

Sorry to hear about your experience with tech support.  At least you have a functioning touchpad now.  I concur with you that this will definitely be the last Lenovo I'll ever purchase and I do my part to spread the word about the entire Y500 touchpad debacle in the real world if nothing else just as a funny conversation piece.  It's like... really?  As far as the upper right corner of my Elan touchpad is concerned, it seems to work just fine.  I'm not losing any movement there, just that it would open up the charms if you do a swipe motion from that corner other than that the pointer moves normally.  I would almost come to the conclusion that the Elan pad is just fine but an issue with Lenovo's design of the palm rest cover not properly grounding the touchpad.  My touchpad has been performing flawlessly since I relocated the grounding point.  I'm almost certain that it is working smoother and better than your Synaptics touchpad from reading the feedback from the forum as well as reading the review from Notebookcheck.  I'll probably make a Youtube video of it if I get the time to show how smooth and accurate this thing is when properly grounded.  I have no touchpad issue, still have the keyboard issue though (throwing out extra characters on the numpad randomly).  Other than that, can't really complain... well actually I could... no WiDi and my new TV supports it.  Oh well, I'll just run Plex.  Don't really know too much about WiDi anyway.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I already am spreading negative facts about lenovo in real life, on the inet, and my next stop will be faceb since they have a fansite. Gonna post my experience on their timeline. They have twitter as well.

I wrote a small experience about this model y500 and the service of lenovo on a German computer selling site. Dude, they are as unfriendly as the rumors say! I know they have no manners at all because I was born and am living in Germany. One states: selber Schuld (your own fault), the other one made a super dumb comment: Something like; in the US they sell products much more cheaper that's why they build faulty/cheaper hardwares inside. Thats the philosphy of lenovo.

Told the dumbest person that this model does not only exist in the US or Germany but as well as netherland and denmark (right next to germany). Also, if lenovo really has had the intention to build faulty hardwares, it's gonna have a hard time cause of warranty.

I was like "da hell"?! I warn them about the product before purchasing it for over 1000 EUROS and thats what I get rewarded?!

Never ever gonna write a review for Germans again!

Whatever, this will be the last time I write in this forums as long as my system runs fine because of tired of this communism cr*p! Not only my posts get deleted but others as well for stating some truths about lenovo and its products. And this also happens in the German forums until I said that the "admins" are good at deleting posts and very bad at helping stranded people.

n1smo:

I look forward to your youtube video. Hope you can include your pics and instructions on how to fix the touchpad. After my warranty I'm gonna disassemble my laptop anyway to put new thermal compound on GPU and CPU.

Share your video here, if it gets deleted send me a PN.

No return call on Friday as promised.  So many broken promises and outright lies.  Not a ethical company. Even after getting hold of an American...Nothing. No movement as all.  I feel held hostage.  Charges are in dispute until matter is resolved, but those funds are committed until the matter is resolved.  I can't move on.

I brought the Y500 on Dec 30th. Received it on the 4th (nice and quick).  Realized trackpad issue by the 6th.  Was issued a RMA for repair on the 6th.  Sent in by Fedex on the 7th.  The rest you can see above. Wow.  Is getting an RMA to return the Y500 at this point a good idea? or should I wait to receive the repaired machine? Because I can't deal with this unethical company anymore.

I had same problems with my touchpad, i have order mine on nov 28 2012 and recieved by Dec 12 2012, recognized the problem soon enough but it wasn't regular so didn't care much since i was using an external mouse. So i decided to send it to repair center, unlike other cases mine was too quick, sent it on feb 8th gonna recieve it by 2morrow evening. Lets hope for the best and hope they had replaced elan with synopsis else am gonna send it back again :-)... and this is my first Lenovo product (totally unsatisfied). crazy, stupid ELAN

I've been keeping track of this thread to see how Lenovo took care of things. I understand electronics go bad now and again. That's fine and expected, mistakes happen. What is unforgivable though is the decision to ignore the mistake and not make it right. Feel very bad for those who stuck with the support hoping it would come through and support the customer. Lenovo should have taken the hit and provided the customers with a thanks for understanding tokens. A $200 credit, a free blue ray upgrade, a free ssd upgrade, a tablet, anything. Instead they sent out more faulty laptops and kept laptops for more than a month without any sincere apology. Duly noted and I'll be sure to pass this history onto everyone I know.
