Lenovo Y410 - Experiencing difficulties when installing software

2008-10-29, 17:20 PM

I have Y410. I seem to have used up the space in my C drive and I would like to know how I can have programs run from or be installed in D drive. I have about 90GB of free space available in my D drive. I do have a lot of softwares installed including Adobe CS3.

Also, how can I move existing installed program to D so that I have some free space in C. Currently I'm unable to install any further software.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I have Y410 as well and I managed to install softwares in drive D(Lenovo).  First create a Programs folder in drive D. While installing a new software direct the installation to D:/Programs when the option comes and asks where to save the installation process. Works fine with me.

As for moving existing softwares from C to D, if you still have the original software CD the only logical way I could think of is to uninstall the software using the control panel then re-install to D:/Programs as above.  There could be other ways some of the forum members can suggest.

Hope this helps.

Thanks solvan. I was thinking along the same line as you but I'm not getting any option to direct where the file is installed during the installation process. Everything seems to be automatically getting set-up in C and I can't seem to prevent it.

I'm getting quite frustrated at this point.

Some software programs do install to C: by default.  Try the link below.  However, it involves tweaking with the registry, backing it up is essential.

Hope this one helps.
