Re: Lenovo Y50-70 WiGig upgrade

2018-03-10, 12:39 PM

Yeah, I had to buy the second WLD15 for the M10041R antenna.

Bear in mind that this antenna is not a classical passive antenna. It has a chip inside, and there is data transfer between the Intel 17265 and the M10041R. That is why Intel 17265 won't work with anything else.

Initially I made the same mistake and I told to my self "Oh, I'll just use the 60 GHz antenna from a replacement laptop cover. It's just an antenna".

I bought 2 WLD15 and both of them had only 1 antenna too. I'm not sure why the second antenna was not installed.

The 3 connoectors on Intel 17265 are MHF4 for the MAIN and the AUX, X-FL (I think) for WiGig (IFCON).

Your best bet is to get an M10041R antenna that comes with the pigtail.

That’s interesting about mhf4 for main and aux and x-fl for wigig

bevsuse i was convinced there all the same size on the intel17260

i know that msata/mpcie wifi antennas are different to wigig

but it on my m4800 there was originally a wig if antenna and card dw1601

the wigig antenna wire is mineute tini tiny in comparison to the wifi aux and main on my dw1601 card

when I got the m2mp1 adapter to allow me fit a m.2 card in my mpcie slot I got adapter pigtails for the main and aux WiFi male to female ends

but I just can’t find a cable or connector (female to female ) suitable size for intel 17260 and long enough to go to the lcd lid

do you have photo of your wigig antenna plugged into your card.

I have posted a picture with the card instealled in a previous post.

I used the cable that came with the WLD15, and it was too short to place the antenna in the lid, so I have just put it in the chassis body, next to SSD, in an empty area.

I have also mentioned in a previous post why the DP link is not connected (so no Wireless Display in my case).

@Chris_DB you could get wireless display back by switching to QCA WiGiG implementation, which doesn't use DP pins at all. Sourcing the necessary parts and corresponding docking station is MUCH harder, however.

Did you by chance have an opportunity to try your WiGiG card in any recent Kaby Lake-R?

I don't unfortunately. I only have an i3-8100.

Why, is there an incompatibility with Kaby Lake-R? I highly doubt that.

@Chris_DB there's this. Since the boards likely were designed long before Intel put an end to WiGiG docking, I have hopes that answer provided in that thread was simply to discourage, and A-keyed slots in Thinkpads are still fully wired according to spec - but that's just an assumption on my part, which could be totally wrong.

In reply to the guy not being able to use DP, for wireless wireless display

how come you dont just buy a usb to vga/hdmi adaptor from ebay maybe less than 10 pounds

then you could plug in the usb-to-hdmi adaptor into your WLD15 dock usb port, and then connect the monitor to that adaptor

because soon as you plug in the usb hdmi adaptor it would install and install the required drivers

as its over usb surely that would work?

i am waiting for the manufacturer to re-produce m2mp3-a and then i can finally get my dell m4800 wigig mode for intel spec

@m4800wigi QCA WiGiG = last generation of Wilocity WiGiG (they bought Wilocity). Different WiGiG docking implementations are not compatible. Can you fit this adapter, by the way? It has jumper for switching pcie lane in use.

You would need QCA9008-TBD1 WLAN card with correct correct antenna and corresponding cable inside the laptop, and Acer Prodock Wireless docking station to make it work. These parts are only used in Acer laptops to my knowledge; drivers are also available on Acer website.
