Lenovo Y510p Ultrabay HDD Gaming Performance

2014-10-17, 19:02 PM
Hey all, I just installed a 2TB Samsung SpinPoint HDD via Ultrabay caddy in my Y510p. I was able to install my games on it without any problem, but when I started playing Alien Isolation, the game play was extremely laggy. I was wondering if this was a correctable issue with graphics settings, or if its just hard to get quality gaming from the ultrabay. If anyone could help me out, it'd be much appreciated.

Actually, I don't know why, but when I restarted my computer, the game started running normally again. I don't know how it happened, but im not complaining! Thanks for your input

There is a chance that the caddy itself is throttling the speeds of the HDD because the HDD has to go through the caddy connector.

Re: Lenovo Y510p Ultrabay HDD Gaming Performance

Hey,

I'm looking to convert by ultrabay drive into more HDD space. Is there an online guide etc available? Or could you list out a few steps? I've also got a y510p.

Basically, I'm removing my HDD from the lappy, replacing it with an SSD and getting additional HDD storage in the Ultrabay. I want the boot drive to be the SSD, have C Drive etc .. but all other files, folders etc be saved on the HDD.

a) How do I go about this?

b) any particular tips/suggestions?

TIA
