Lenovo Y550P i7 Turbo boost BIOS issue

2010-04-19, 7:01 AM

Hello everybody,

I have a Lenovo Y550P with i7 720qm processor.

The specs for quad processor are 1.6Ghz baseline, and 2.8 with turbo boost (for one processor mode).

The issue is that turbo boost seems disabled by default. The BIOS, Insyde H2O Bios, doesn't allow any modification. Generally, the turbo boost option would be available in the Bios.

I'm not sure if no one else noticed, but the laptop never passes the 1.6 Ghz threashold, so I assume turbo boost is disabled by default on the Bios.

There my question, how to enable turbo boost? I saw that the Bios may have a hidden advanced menu, but that thread has that question opened since February and none answered. Is this possible? Is the laptop restricted to 1.6Ghz?

Hi,

of course, that was the first thing I did. Using the latest Bios provided by Lenovo.

Actually, I think this is an issue to be addressed. After looking around, I realized the CPU actually IS going to 2.8 under Windows 7. The overclocking is not reported by the OS, you need a different tool to check the actual speed of the processor. (CPU_Z).

Under Linux, Ubuntu 10.4 is coming with a kernel that supports turbo boost, so should be fixed to. Will try and report back.

Chris

Interesting. You push a F key on boot up. Look at the bottom of your screen when you first power it on and it will tell you what key.
