Lenovo y510 ssd or sshd

2017-05-10, 20:54 PM

Hi, im new here,
I buyed a Lenovo ideapad y510p, the provider showed me the especifications,
I read that it have 1 TB (1000GB) + 24 SSD, i understand they are two disks, not one hybrid disk.
But the problem now is that i wanna change the 24 SSD disk, by one bigger, but I cant find the 24SSD disk on my laptop, in the space that should be the disk I did not find anything, and It dont have the slot too.
I asked to my provider and he says me It dont have a ssd independient, It have a sshd disk,
I wanna know what are the diferences between the models of this version of lenovo laptop,
Exist a version in this model of lenovo whit two disks SSD and HDD independients?
Exist a version in this model of lenovo with a sshd?
Why i dont have the slot?
If the provider oferted me a lenovo y510p with 1tb hhd + 24gb ssd, i would have the slot?

please some one help me.

Hi Benjy2976 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number / MTM  ?

Each variants of the design model differ from each Machine model type.

You can verify yours at the parts lookup page.

General specifications for storage includes: (page 28 of the hardware manual)

UPTO 1TB HDD storage – [1TB/500GB (5400rpm)],
24GB SSD (optional)
SSHD:1T+8G

Here are some discussions that would help answer your planned upgrade depending on the MTM types:

You may take time to review such discussions and update us soon as convenient.

My y510p originally came with a 1TB HD with a built-in 24gb ssd, it did not have a m.2 ssd, and it did not have an m.2 slot on the motherboard (it only had an empty space there). Some versions of the y510p motherboard have the m.2 slot and others do not. It sounds like yours is the same as mine, that the SSD is integrated into the 2.5" HD.

Hi thanks for your answer. I found the model of my device in your page of parts.

Y510P Laptop (ideapad) - Type 6494 - Model CTO (Serial#YB00922631) / YB00922631.6494

like I telled you before, I wanna know if is there any model with (1TB and 24GB SSD) in a SSHD?

like I read, the version with a SSHD have 1T+8G not 1T+24G

is that rigth?

thanks again.

My y510p model is 20217. It doesn't have an m.2 slot on the motherboard.
I cross checked both the Lenovo part number and the Seagate part number for the SSHD that came with my laptop, both say my SSHD should have been a 1TB w/ 8gb flash, however I did use it, and I'm absolutely certain it was more than that; I can only guess that either there was a mistake in the documentation, or some sort of substitution during manufacturing.
