2013-07-28, 13:56 PM

Hello. I spilled drink on my laptop. This has resulted in dead keyboard. I ordered new one and i don't wanna send my laptop away for few months. So i m gonna change it my self. It's not first time taking apart my laptop (well it's first time taking apart y580) but can somebody write steps or give some kind of guide how to do it?

Download the hardware maintenance manual from this link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=UM015371.

Page 46 shows the direction of the connector removal. Do not use force else you will break those ribbon cable. Maybe you can ask somebody with a smaller hand to reach those cable and detach them for you.

Oddly enough, I have the same exact problem. I followed the hardware maintenance manual. I removed the two screws on the back, pushed all of the clips into the keyboard bezel and managed to pop out the aluminum base of the keboard just over the clips.

Problem is, where the manual says you just need to lift the keyboard lightly and then pull it out towards the screen, mine still seems to be fixated somewhere around the middle, seemingly the letters K/L/O. It does appear that I'd be required to use excessive force and eventually break the keyboard, much like the thread opener, to actually remove the keyboard. By lifting up the edges and checking the back of the keyboard I have not been able to spot any signs of a possible third screw to remove or any other mechanism that might be holding the keyboard in place. I was able to lever out four of the five aluminum latches on the bottom using somewhat unreasonable force but the one at the center remains immovable.

When I pull/push either the left or the right side of the aluminum base it will actually pivot around the central latch so there is definitely something holding the keyboard in place. I have no idea what it is but if anyone else has experienced this issue I would very much like to know how they have resolved it.

There is 3 screws, if the directions say 2 its wrong.  There is a screw right next/above you msata slot. Pcie slot what ever your calling it.  The same screw that holds the burner in. They have a tiny keyboard icon stamped on the case right next to them. I about to take mine apart right now. Light's not working.
