hi chuchuanxiao,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The Y500 Ultrabay is utilizing the SLI Technology which combines two cards to work as one.

You can check this Article about the Y500 Graphics Ultrabay

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT076927

It says;

Y500 has an optional graphics card for the ultrabay. When installed, the second graphics card is not visible in Device Manager. Due to this, you can get confused whether both graphic cards work correctly.

It is normal for the ultrabay graphics card not to be shown in Device Manager. To see if both graphic cards are working normally, follow the next steps:

1. Press Start and type dxdiag in the search bar.

2. Go to Display tab, and under Approx. Total Memory, there should be 4000 MB if both graphic cards are working.

If customer takes out the ultrabay one, then only 2000 MB will be visible.

Hope this helps,

Cheers!!

well, I took out the second card but it still shows 4042mb of memory, why is that? And when I installed the second card, no obvious performance is gotten better, it does not show in the nvidia control panel at all, I just reinstall my win7 system, and i updated the bios to 2.02 already previously, I dont think its working when its not shown in the device manager???? I still need a better solution please please please

hi chuchuanxiao,

Im Pretty sure the Graphics card built in your Motherboard and the SLI Graphics both has 2GB of Memory,

Try Checking the Memory Specs again under "dxdiag display TAB"  with the SLI Graphics plugged in

Untitled.jpg

Close the "dxdiag" windows Remove the SLI Graphics then Open the dxdiag windows again or try restarting the PC before you try re-checking under dxdiag. this is to refresh the data".

It should show your Motherboard Built in Graphics 2GB when the SLI is unplugged.

Solid Cruver

Cheers!

You could also try running GPU-Z and see if it shows SLI enabled instead of disabled like it normally does.

Really appreciate the help guys but i still cant configure the second card, and my directx diag tab is still show 4gs of RAM on the graphic card section even I unplugged the sli card and shut the laptop then reboot it, and GUPZ is not detecting the second card neither, so I think the card might be faulty....... Unless u guys have some other idea, I'll really appreciate it:3

I think you've hit the nail on the head, your Ultrabay graphics card was probably dead on arrival.  It was a simple plug and pray for me.  Pray that Lenovo didn't send me another crap product.  Luckily, the Y500 recognized the SLI immediately so I think your's is just DOA because it shouldn't require a lot of detective work to get the thing working.  So now pray that Lenovo customer service will get you a replacement in a decent amount of time.  Good luck!!!!!!

We have started a new thread about this issue, there are bunch of us having this problem now and we believe it is a bios issue of some sort. See my thread about new SLI card not being detected.
