Network cable keeps disconnecting after certain time

2015-06-03, 23:29 PM
Hi,

I just bought a new Lenovo Z510 and I have serious issues with network Ethernet cable. When I turn on the laptop and plug in the cable, it works for around 5 minutes. Then it suddenly disconnects (in software) while physically it is still connected. When I restart the computer it works again for next 5 minutes. It's really annoying.

1. I haven't installed any new software so far.
2. It's not problem of the cable (works fine on other laptops).
3. Windows 8.1 diagnostics only says that the cable is diaconnected.
4. I already tried reinstalling the driver so I have the newest version from lenovo web page.
5. It's not problem of BIOS because it works fine first - then disconnects.

I really have no idea what can cause it. Does someone have similar experience? I suspect maybe some power management kills the service or something? But have no idea how to solve it. Thank you for any advice.

Ondrej

Hi thanks for the reply. I have tried everything above. No success.

Then I googled many possible repairs and finally the problem stopped when I
uninstalled McAfee security. I have no idea what caused the problem but now
it works perfectly.

So the solution of Ethernet connection problem: uninstall McAfee!

I have no idea why Lenovo has to deliver so many third party software with
their products. And even if it causes problems. I have no idea if its only
me but I really suggest first to uninstall all the ballast that comes with
the laptop. Its even only 30 days trial. No good in it. Only some money for
Lenovo from advertisements. And lot of nerves to its customers!

Best regards and I hope this helps someone.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problems.  With the ethernet cable plugged in have you tried uninstalling the ethernet driver, rebooting the computer and then installing a new copy of the driver ?
