New Y410P 59405095, HDD question.

2014-02-14, 0:27 AM

So I just purchased and recieved a Y410P Model 59405095. This model was to include a 1TB HDD +8gb SSD. I've been reading through the forums and I'm guessing the SSD was supposed to be a M2 sata (the very small SSD similiar to an Msata). Anyway upon receiving this machine I've found no mention of the 8gb ssd anywhere. I've looked through the device manager and nothing. I only see the 1TB drive listed. I purchased a 2.5" SSD to replace the HDD and when I opened the back there is no SSD anywhere to be found. I see the HDD, I see the RAM, I see the fan, etc. There is a thread posted here that shows pictures inside the bottom of one of the machines and the OP is trying to find out if the empty spot on the lower right is an mSata connection. The thread then says no it's an m2sata that isn't released to the public market yet. Ok well that same slot is empty on mine. I paid for the 8gb SSD option and I'm about 99% sure it isn't in the machine. If it is I'm looking in the wrong place and windows fails to recognize it. Anyway, my question is this. Where is the 8gb SSD "supposed" to be located? How do I know that it is in fact there at all? I'm just annoyed that I paid the extra for this and it doesn't appear to be there. The numbers match on the computer exactly as they do on my oder and online. I'm either an idiot or this computer doesn't have it. Thank you for any help.

Apparently there is no separate disk for the 8gb cache. It is physically built into the hdd. I guess I was just expecting something else. Who knows. Anyway...that's that. Here is a link with more details on the physical drive itself.

You have the SSHD. To verify the 8 gb ssd portion try running Aida64.

Does the 59405095 model ship with a M.2 slot for future upgrades or not?  I know the y510p doesnt have a slot unless you order one with a 24gb SSD.  Is it the same for this model?

Not sure, the cut out is there for it but I don't know if there is an actual connection in there. I'm not familiar with the m.2 connection.

I believe this image shows the slot with the connector and without.  The one with it also has a SSD installed.  On the 59405095 model, does it at least have the connector?

mdf2t,

Go to the Lenovo Parts Lookup page at: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page

Enter your 'Serial Number' on that form (but just leave 'Machine Type' blank), click the [Submit] button, and copy-and-paste the entire table of  "Mfg P/N", "FRU P/N", and "Description" column listings that you see as a reply to this discussion, and I can explain what you have (or don't have) in your configuration.  Do NOT include your serial number in your reply... just the table listing of "P/N" and and descriptions.  I have a possible idea as to what is going on, and I can confirm this if you list out the parts in your configuration.
