As I posted earlier, moving closer to my router seems to help tremendously.  Now I am ready to try some of those wifi boosters/extenders out there to see if they will enable me to move back to my original spot that appears to be a low/dead zone for my wifi.

As for the WT mode I think that is only for certain wifi cards as I cannot find that on my Centrino 2230 configuration.

Anyone know if getting one of those usb wifi dongles would solve the issue? I travel alot so having to mess with router settings is rarely an option for me. Might have to return the laptop and, other than internet issue, i really like it. :(

Re: New y510p with a wifi problem

Hello,

i have reinstalled PC to Windows 8.0 and it works with no problem with my Y510 with N7260 Wifi adapter - until that  I have been using W 8.1 with various drivers and it was dropping every 30 minutes.

I guess I ll stick to W8 for a while, until there ll be clear solution - but since Intel and Lenovo and other manufacturer care just for profit and they sell this type of laptops......... I dont know what to say, I grew up on Windows but I am also using my PC for DJing and i made a mistake with not getting Apple - because we all need these things to just work correctly right.

My advice to you guys struggling is to downgrade to Win 8.0 (i have the old driver 16.1.0.14 from 28.6.2013 and there are no drops)

After you make this and u still struggling try these: (I got windows in my native language so It ll be lil tricky here)

U have to go to Device manager and Open Intel N7260

First Tab is general, second is advanced, third driver etc.

U go to second one and there is HT mode - which I turned off

And there is also Transimiting energy - something like that - lets make it Highest !

Hope it ll help, if not post another message and I ll try to navigate you more

Ok at the risk of sounding stupid ....what is ht mode and where do I find it ...I have a brand new y510p. Nice machine except for this issue ...just FYI it does it on a plug in USB wireless adapter as well so it is in the diver somewhere or the os. IMHO

HT/Greenfield/Fat Channel is the use of 40MHz channels (2 channels bonded together) for more throughput.  Only it's disruptive to other nearby networks and they interferfere with you.  Allowing this is really a router controlled thing, although there are some driver settings.  For instance, you can enable "fat channel intolerant' for your laptop driver, and the router should obey your wishes not to have the router use 40mhz.  Most routers don't have a 40mhz all the time mode.  Rather they should have only 20mhz or Auto options.  Auto should look around for other networks and only use 40mhz when there's no one else to interferewith.

Basically, if you live in the country and can't see anyone else's wifi, go ahead an be a hog.  If you live in an apartment building as I do, and I can see 20+ other wifi netoworks, don't try it.

Actually, HT mode is the renamed 802.11n mode that is found in the Centrino adapters. Disabling HT mode forces the 7260 to operate in Wireless-G mode (54 Mbps maximum speed). In some cases, disabling HT mode stablilizes connection (more consistent pings) but it doesn't improve the connection much on very crowded WiFi areas.

Did the factory reset but my laptop comes with 8.1 by default. Talked to lenovo and they said they would send me a new wfi card (same model though =/). Lets see if this works.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but for me it was as simple as moving the laptop 10 ft or so closer to my router. I have no clue why this should be, but I have been on now for almost 3 straight days w/o a single drop of Wifi. My hope now is that one of these less expensive USB plug in things will help me get the signal where I want to work w/ it.
