Re: New y510p with a wifi problem

If you know someone nearby with a Linksys router you can try, give it a shot.  I'm not saying that a netgear router shouldn't work just as well...but it defintely seems like the router characteristics are a factor.

It may be possible that a Linksys router may be better from a connectivity standpoint. However, if the card is unable to reliably connect to major brand routers, the card or the drivers are defective. That is the bottom line. When I take my laptop out of my house and I am trying to connect to a mobile hotspot I shouldn't have to wonder if my laptop will connect due to the brand of the hardware I am trying to connect to.

If there wasn't all this talk of bios whitelists, I would just buy a different model card and install it myself. I don't want to go through the time and trouble though unless I am sure that the card I get will definitely work with my laptop.

Joshva,

What new intel driver? The latest driver I see is dated last June.

How do I find it? Lenovo site doesn't list it and intel site says I'm up to date. 'Update driver' says I have the latest. Is it a beta, maybe?

Can anyone else here confirm that updating to the latest drivers solved the disconnect issues? The only reason why I'm hesitant in purchasing a Y series notebook is the WIFI issues.

Dissambled: according to the Intel forums, these drivers have not solved the problem. Although they may work for some people.

Alas, the problem persists. It was also a real pain to find the right update for the 2230. The September release didn't actually update the 2230 but an August update did.

Bah. Maybe it's time to consider another notebook then. The HP notebook I currently own also has disconnect issues. Dealing with an identical problem with a new notebook will just be a frustrating experience.

Though maybe the Lenovo staff here can convince the builders to update the WIFI card in the near future?
