Re: Lenovo Z510 CPU stuck at 0.77GHz

2014-06-09, 11:58 AM

After flashing new BIOS, the fans turn on whenever there is cpu usage above 10%. Don't feel this is necessary

It is annoying whenever opening up a program like google CHROME which just briefly uses more cpu for like 2 seconds. This happens with any program I open. Brief cpu usage and fans turn on.

I kinda got the same Z510 model (I5-4200M on a VIUU4 Motherboard). It seems the new BIOS version (V.39) generates new and serious problems such as high fan speed or overheating issues.

I'd like to upgrade mine too but I'm afraid of messing it up, and besides, there's a BIOS feature to roll back the previous version (BIOS Back Flash) but I can't possibly figure out how it works and there's no support about it either.

By the way, I'm still dealing with another issue right now ("conservation mode" does not stay on after reboot), so I'd better not do it for now.

Hi kof98.  Just a question.  When the fans turn on, are they just running slow, or is it a 'full gust'; fans running at full power?  I think my fans are always running on power because I have the fan's set to 'active' in windows power settings.  My fans always run a little bit, but usually slow enough that it doen't make hardly any noise, then I only get them running at full gust when I am really doing something (playing games, running video transcoding, etc.

Hey there, So I had mentioned in a previous post, but it does fix most of the power issues, but I still have an issue sometimes where if I have the unit on AC power, go to sleep/hibernation, unplug the unit, and then power on the pc again on battery, then the cpu will still be stuck on .77GHz.

This doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.  I haven't noticed much else.  I have an i7 4700MQ

the problems post bios update seem to differ with hardware...
In case mine with core i5-4200m the processor frequency stays very high after I resume from sleep...
The other issue is failure of turbo at random times..

So you tried to boot your notebook from USB device (e.g. external HDD, pendrive) and from DVD?

The support page still says that "Bios update is not required for this product ".

They should upload the previous BIOS and the current one to this page! You could just simply rollback.
