Re: Lenovo Z510 CPU stuck at 0.77GHz

@chavanshashank

I don't have any other issue except for turbo boost, which I handle by not unplugging the adapter as long as system is switched ON and after shutdown I wait for 10 secs (approx) and then remove the adapter... Then there is no issue of turbo boost...

As my system is in warranty, I escalated this issue of bios several times at lenovo customer care so that those dumb can get into their brains that this has not been done to save power, but in fact a technical failure...

"There's no use with processor taking hours to execute a task which usually takes minutes and then call it power savings.."

If at all we are so worried of power savings wouldn't we can just opt for power savings mode ...

I hardly see customer care responding to issues. What would posting in forum do! Just waste of time and effort...

I've tested on my z510 i3-4000M and i don't see any problem with stucking at 0.77GHz. I can say nothing about the TURBO BOOST, because this proccessor doesn't support this function.

// I have a problem with the sound since I bought this machine. Windows startup sound stutters. :(

Re: Lenovo Z510 CPU stuck at 0.77GHz

Hello All,

Please consider as well the following scenario:

1.) Start the computer plugged in as usual.

2.) Unplug the unit and use as usual.

3.) Let the computer automatically go into Hibernation mode.

4.) Plug the the laptop back into AC Power

5.) Turn the computer back on.

In this situation as well, the unit will lock at .77 GHz.  The only way to fix is to unplug, and then plug back in, and turbo boost will start working again.  Also note, that if you don't perform step 4, the laptop still locks at .77.

Can someone who has already taken the 40 bios please test this scenario to assure that it's fixed.  This is a good second test that differs from my original scenario that only involved standby.

This is another common scenario that occurs when someone may be travelling with the laptop for long periods without a way to plug in to an outlet.

Please let me know your thoughts guys and gals.

Regards and thanks in advance.

I wrote a knowledge base article regarding this issue and based on the reports in this discussion, am making the V40 test BIOS available to all. The link to it is in the article.

You can find it here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Z510-CPU-Becomes-Stuck-At-0-77GHz/ta-p/1801104

Thanks,

ok,i just tested this new bios V40 , everything seems to be perfectly working except from the part it goes under sleep state, after coming out from sleep state tht to on battery power, cpu gets stucked at 2.45 ghz then gradually comes down to lower state however wont go past 2.45 ghz which clearly shows that turbo boost is not wrking at this present state its just wander along its normal cpu range. which is 2.45-.50ghz,i guess this is the only issue i feel that is still needs to be fixed.. .As soon as i plug in power back, everything starts working as normal according to the power modes selected as well respectively.. further update.. Starting z510 on battery,it wont get past 2.45 ghz~ ,even if u select performance mode,it wont move a inch after 2.45 ,turbo boost aint working at all.

Re: Lenovo Z510 CPU stuck at 0.77GHz

Hi All,

I think this is the worst firmware ever from lenovo.

I updated to this firmware due to this cpu issue(my laptop stucked several times on 0.77GHz), and I cannot enter anymore a special characted to the BIOS power on password,

I used before "." - dot/point in my password and now no special characters are accepted :D

also my supervisor password contain "dot" too :D

Thank you Lenovo that you disabled my laptop, I think this is the best solution, when I cannot use the laptop I will have no issue anymore with the cpu.:D

how I can access my laptop now ?

how I can enter special character to the BIOS password field ?

thx.

While I connect Bajcsi with my next level support, is there anyone else running V40 and using special characters, in particular ".", in their passwords successfully?

Thanks,

Re: Lenovo Z510 CPU stuck at 0.77GHz

Hi Amy,

if I remember correctly, yesterday, I updated the BIOS from V26,

I downloaded the standard update from lenovo.com/ support searched for Z510.

also before the update I checked the readme, but no info about this password change behavior. I downloaded the update, the update restarted my laptop, and than flashed the FW to the v39 without issue,

I use for the password 8 standard characters(a-z) + 1 special character as I wrote in this case "." - dot.

before this was not an issue, and worked without problems.

after the bios update to v39 I am not able to write any special characters, just a beep signal from the laptop, also cannot write more than 8 characters - just the beep signal too.

from the behaviour before it seems that this BIOS is limiting the password to exact 8 characters and also not allowing any special characters to write anymore to the password field, when I try different special character than I get just a beep signal too. I will call/visit today our local lenovo representative too to help with this as my laptop is completely locked :-(

Thank you.

Best regards,

Norbert
