Re: Y50 Big fan pulsating and clicking

2014-12-08, 11:40 AM

Just called lenovo support from my region, and explained the story that i have just purchased a laptop from them and asked if it was possible to get a replacement part ( new fan, as cheap as it can get right ? ) sent to my address so i can replace it myself instead of having to send it into repair for 3 weeks they said ( yes thats right 3 weeks to replace a fan ). Their answer was it was not possible to send a replacement part, as they dont usually do that and that it was out of the question. WOW last time lenovo, brought a brand new faulty laptop and you guys wont even replace the fan which probably costs a few $. Instead she said i can go onto the support and find the part i was looking for and BUY it. PFF!

Wow, strange, I emaild them too, but they told me where to bring it and let them replace the fan. bad thing today here in Italy nobody's working.

I guess since it is still in warranty you cannot replace it by yourself.

Yes. After all this I don't think I would recommend Lenovo to anyone nor buy their products again. Even after buying two laptops, prior to knowing this default.

I dont understand how it can be fan fault? So many laptops around the world, and all have same problem?

And for warranty repairs. Why they change bios (or reinstall it), if there is hardware problem?

And another thing. For me in Lithuania it will be real pain to change fan by warranty. Does lenovo make official statment about failure?

The Microsoft Store person I was dealing with suspects that there was a massive batch of faulty or deficient fans insalled into many devices.

It may also may be possible that it's the manufacturer of a particular fan that has been giving us all grief. They may have swapped out the fan for one from another manufacturer.

Been working on my laptop all day and no chirpping.

just "chirping" in here:

funny enough about faulty fans and such - i have a lenovo laptop that overheats too much.. i was getting high tempatures and while doing barely nothing..

I researched and searched for a solution.. the only "real" solution was to re-paste the thermal paste on the cpu.. that is kinda ridiculous to be honest but that is the solution.. i have not done this yet.. but anyway the point is the fan is controled by the bios which lenovo locked..

the problem is the fan doesn't sufficiently cool the laptop.. and the laptop is jam packed with a video card and i7 CPU that delivers a lot of heat!

meanwhile the 2nd easier solution without having to buy and repaste the stupid thermal paste on a cpu is to run your fan at high speed..  unfortunately you can't becuase lenovo locked it! genius guys.. genius..

so now the latest is i've cut a wire that connects my fan to my motherboard that controls the speed of the fan.. believe it or not, this worked and now my fan runs at constant speed 24-7 cooling the laptop.. ofcourse it's a little annoying with the fan noise (its not terrible though) and now i can't ever stop my fan.. (unless i resolder the wire back into the tiny little part that is too difficult so i dont feel like doing it)

so just thought this was funny that you guys are getting a faulty fan when mine needs to run more.. and now i cant control it and its constantly on full speed all the time..

the over-all point of this??

do not buy a lenovo laptop again ladies and gentleman. they put in bad components and parts and are just too big of a company..  I've read through so many of these forums and they all say the same thing:

"need drivers latest, problem with video, problem with hard drive, problem with screen, problem with parts "

wake up  and do yourself a favor and buy an ASUS laptop.. they figured it out over there.. they don't put in faulty parts.. they don't do long RMA's.. they dont' tell you bull.. they don't restrict their bios.. they don't put major system breaking heat limits or throttling

Re: Y50 Big fan pulsating and clicking

Hi all,

just got off the phone with Lenovo's service department in Greece.

I had sent them my laptop 2 weeks ago and today they informed me of the following:

* initially they thought this was a hardware issue so they replaced the fan

* the clicking persisted after the replacement

* they run out of time since there is a time window inside which a service must be completed, so they won't be testing it with another fan

* they are sending the laptop back along with a notice authorizing the retailer from which I bought it to give me a refund

Honestly, I think won't be using my refund on another Lenovo, but I am eager to see how/if other people in this thread will solve this issue.

My advice, if you haven't already, contact your local Lenovo service and send them your laptop. If it is indeed a hardware issue, maybe you will get lucky with the replacement... If not, I think a refund is in order, this problem is unaccaptable for a 1000+ euro laptop.

Cheers!
Christopher
