Mark_Lenovo,

I'm facing the same problem of noises here in my Lenovo 4K.

I hope that when the fix for the yellow color be released, this big issue with the noise be fixed too.

We would appreciate a lot an official comment on this topic.

My Y50, 4K, SSD makes a fairly quiet clicking sound at idle and yes, it does go away once the fan kicks on to higher rpm's.

To me, it simply sounds like the fan is spinning at very low rpm's and might be a little wobbly at those low rpm's.  Once the rpm's increase, obviously the fan will pull up on it's bearings from the force so the clicking goes away.

If there is a fix, it would likely come in the form of increasing the idle fan rpm which would drain battery faster, so I'm fine with the clicking personally since I usually fire something demanding up and it goes away.

It doesn't sound anything like a wobbly fan... it sounds a burst of hard drive activity, like the fan is constantly switching between on and off and not staying in a single state. If it was a wobbly fan the noise would be constant.

I can confirm this issue is also present on my y50 fhd 256 ssd. Initially i thought it was the ssd because the noise sounds like a standard hdd accessing the disk. But ssd is supposed to be dead silent right? To describe the sound it compares a bit to an old ticking clock. Its not loud in any regards, but it is definitely noticeable and super annoying. Especially because the laptop in itself is very quiet. But in all other regards the laptop is great san the display panel, but that could be replaced. Hopefully the noise issue is looked into.

There is enough ppl here complaining about this issue.

We deserve a deadline for a bios update. We can't just sit and wait with our hopes.

It's time for an official representative talk now.

For my own, it's getting a lot worse while idling. I really need a response from lenovo about this issue because I'm about to get an other pc.

First of all, the yellows doesn't bother me as much because I don't do any graphic but the 48hz panel affect me as a gamer. And now, While browsing , i get that clicking fan noise. It's annoying and frustrating.

I'm willing to spend a litle much to get a msi gs60 and having no basic issues like the lenovo y50 have.

Some pc's at 500$ doesn't have those basic problems so it's not logical Lenovo.

Get we get a REAL ANSWER here plz?

Re: Y50 Big fan pulsating and clicking

Hello,

I contacted the Lenovo Support in Germany several times:

1. Phone-Support: Maybe there will be a Bios-Update but the technical dep. don´t know about this problem. Return the Y50 and they will check it. > You will have the same problem again.

2. Forum-Support: Maybe there will be a Bios-Update to fix this problem, but when? > We have to wait.

3. Email-Support: Maybe something gone wrong with the installation of Windows 8.1, drivers and the energy management utility. Please reinstall everything and try it again. > I wrote back that I cannot believe that 10-20 people installed there Y50 wrong. Still waiting for an answer. Therefore I asked if someone got his Y50 finish installed by Lenovo and has this problem. Than we know it's not a customer problem. Someone who wants to reinstall his Y50? :D

I think the best is, that everyone contact the email-support and describe this problem. The forum is good to find  customers with the same problem and to communicate with them, but to fix the problem it is useless.

Best regards

Sebastian
