Re: Y50 Big fan pulsating and clicking

2015-02-10, 22:20 PM

I have the same problem since the day I got this laptop. I bought my Lenovo one week ago.

I have a Lenovo Y50-70 with i5 processor, 4GB Ram and Nvidia 860 GTX with 4GB video memory. My processor is a bit newer, it's the Intel 4210H, while some models have the 4200H. So in theory, my Lenovo should be a bit newer, but it still comes with this problem.

Re: Y50 Big fan pulsating and clicking

All I can say now it's that I am very disappointed for the fact that Lenovo representatives don't care so much for fixing at least this clicking fan problem. They have forgotten that we are the ones who trusted and bought their products. They have broken that trust and maybe, a less revenue because of some unsatisfied clients don't matter so much for them, but here, what it does matter is the principle of keeping their customers satisfied.

Maybe the engineers team, responsible for fixing this issue, are on vacation. Probably, they will get back later this year. :smileyfrustrated:

Anyway I am very, very disappointed and it is a shame that they act like that. It seems like they are delaying on purpose.

If I knew that I have to send my laptop in Germany, for a repair, I wouldn't have bought the laptop in the first place. At that time I didn't thought about any problems with a Lenovo product. Now I know better.

As an advice for all, search all informations online about the product that you are about to buy and if you find something like this forum, forget about it.

From now on I will stay away from Lenovo products.

Re: Y50 Big fan pulsating and clicking

I also have this problem, it was a problem from day 1. I have been following this thread for several weeks now, but it seems like there is less and less posts in this thread with no updates at all so I am worried. I am also worried because this article states that Lenovo is pushing out it's new version of y50 next month, complete with the next generation graphics card, a faster i7, and the new IPS display.

This last line worries me the most, "The new models are expected to go on sale by next month and is expected to be priced around the same as the current Y50 models."

Supposedly these problems we've been having have all been reported to Lenovo. Does this mean they're just going to make these newer models with no problems, and us old customers will be swept under the rug?

That's not cool, could we get an update please?

In my country Y50-70 are getting BIG discounts. In forums they discuss about computer problems, but they did not talk about this sound.

Every day i check this tread for answer.

As for me, i already lost hope to get fix. Such long time term, and no answer? Something is going on. Dont think this is good for us- users. Maybe ateun gave us the answer. Does this Y50-70 is a test model with mass production?

IF this is a bios problem, hope there will be fix, if they discontinue any suppor with new model. And if there is fan problem, maybe in market will appear suome cind upgrade.

P.S. somehow my acc dissapeared, and needed long/painful way to log in again.

Well the 860m gtx and 960m are very identical, the only good thing on your article is the new ips screen which we all can buy for 60$ and install ourselves
http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=2558&gid2=2291&compare=geforce-gtx-960m-2gb-vs-geforce-gtx-860m-4gb

Other than that.. Their new laptop is going to have different and most probably worst problems

As for a fix on fan.. Do not expect them to tell you it can't be fixed because really.. It will cause a global outrage and they know it cant be fixed lol
Sorry everyone just deal with it and never buy from them again

I bought my y50 on the date just before the latest reply of Amy, 21/1/2015. The £1199 laptop should not has such a ridiculous issue, a clicking fan!
As a oversea student from China studying in the UK, I bought Lenovo laptop without any hesitating after my last laptop's mother board was broken and could't been repaired. My last laptop is y460 that is bought in 2010, and the Y series really made deep impress to me, I trusted Lenovo.
But now, after reading the whole post, I'm starting to think of that if it was wrong to chose y50. I usually write my dissertation in the silent night, but now, I have to bear with the noisy clicking, and it is really boring!
In China, the hometown of Lenovo, there are also clicking fan issue, but no official solutions, either!
Looking forward to the solution!

Re: Y50 Big fan pulsating and clicking

Hi there,

same problem here. Since the german thread is very short, I decited to follow up this one. Got my y50-70 a week ago, and I am able to reproduce the clicking fan noise on Ubuntu 14.10 and Win7. Basicly I do want to keep the notebook, but the fan clicking is really annoying. Hoping for a status update soon...

Edit:

For all those who are interested in a workaround (on Ubuntu) until Lenovo comes up with a solution: using TLP i was able to minimize the clicking sound. My setup is Win for gaming (so no clicking because of full throttle ;) ) and Ubuntu for every day use, so (most of the time) no need for full power, hence TLP. It does a pretty good job on power management. On battery the clicking noise is almost gone, plugged in it's less, but still there. Maybe fiddling around with the settings will do the trick. Nevertheless, it's just a workaround and I am waiting for Lenovos answer to this thread...
