Re: Y50 Windows 8 : Keyboard response too slow after coming back from hibernation

It is either that they are not paying attention or they have such incompetent engineering team that couldn't figure out the problem. I reckon it is the SHDD that they fear a massive recall if making any solid announcement on it.

Well, it can't be the SSHD since I replaced mine with an SSD. I think
several of the other individuals on here have either done the same or
ordered it with the SSD.

Yes, my Y50 came with an SSD right out of the box. Lenovo now understands that the problem is present with both types of drives.

Re: Y50 Windows 8 : Keyboard response too slow after coming back from hibernation

I can verify that running this script works well in Windows 8.1 Pro.  Thanks, NSFW.  I'm now attempting to get this running in at every login, so that when the computer wakes from sleep the keyboard repeat issue will be eliminated.

1. Create a batch file (edit a text file and name it keyboard_repeat.bat, save the file in a known location like your documents folder).

2. Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler

3. Create Task.  Name: "keyboard repeat"  Description: "Fixes Y50 keyboard repeat issue on wake from sleep."

4. Triggers Tab > New > Begin the task: "On workstation unlock", Any user.

5. Triggers Tab > New > Begin the task: "At log on", Any user.

6. Actions Tab > Start a program > Browse > select the .bat file that you created and saved in your documents folder.

7. Conditions Tab > Uncheck "Start the Task only if computer is on AC Power".

8. Select Ok, and enter your administrative password to create the task.

As NSFW pointed out, the following works for the script (copy and paste into your .bat file):

echo off
echo Fixing keyboard repeat rate
mode con: rate=32 delay=1
timeout 2

This works for Windows 8 Pro.  Lenovo, adding this in a downloadable package would save a lot of people a lot of wasted time.  Thanks again NSFW for the fix.

Re: Y50 Windows 8 : Keyboard response too slow after coming back from hibernation

There's a thread about this issue in Microsoft's forums:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-hardware/keyboard-response-slowed-down-after-coming-back/598cf576-2323-44c6-8db9-346046a2b573

The bottom line there seems to be that since the problem only affects the laptop's built-in keyboard, and does not affect external USB keyboards, this must be a Lenovo problem, not a Microsoft problem.

Also, my batch-file workaround is kind of ugly due to the console window popping up and disappearing every time a user logs in. If Lenovo wants to use that approach to working around the problem it would be better to do it with an EXE that stays hidden. I'm sure that Lenovo must employ at least one software developer who could write such an app.

Re: Y50 Windows 8 : Keyboard response too slow after coming back from hibernation

Hi, I have found a SOLUTION! I will be using the same script above but without the promp of a CMD.

And for that, we will need an extra VBS file that will call the bat file.
Simply:

create callFix.vbs file that will contain

Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell" )
WshShell.Run chr(34) & "C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\keyboardFix.bat" & Chr(34), 0
Set WshShell = Nothing

you can change the path of course

then, we will call our bat file that will contain

echo off
echo Fixing keyboard repeat rate
mode con: rate=32 delay=1
timeout 2

and then we will follow the steps already posted

1. creation of bat and vbs files (done)

6. Actions Tab > Start a program > Browse > select the .vbs file that you created and saved

7. Conditions Tab > Uncheck "Start the Task only if computer is on AC Power".

8. Select Ok, and enter your administrative password to create the task.

First off many thanks to NSFW for the bat file. Works like a champ.

As for you lenovo I would love to see an official fix here soon. This is my first lenovo laptop I have bought and might be my last with annoyances like this.

How about an update at least. I mean didn't a community member send their laptop in to be the guinea pig? What's the word on that?

I've asked and wondered the same thing. There hasn't been a response from
the Lenovo rep that was on here before. It would be nice just to see how
that situation was handled, whether it was the same issue I am seeing or
not, even. What's the deal, Lenovo?

It's an otherwise great machine, especially for the price. Just this one
little frustrating bit.

I plugged in my mechanical keyboard, and I don't have the slow key repeat problems when typing on it, but then I shift over to my laptop keyboard and I get the slow repeat problem. The key repeat issue only affects my built-in laptop keyboard, It does not affect my external keyboard.

So you can plug in a keyboard and it's fast on the mechanical one but slow
when you hit a key on the laptop? Sounds like a driver issue for sure.
Weird, since the driver is just the stock Microsoft driver...
