Slower Gaming speed in comparison to cheaper laptops

2014-08-27, 14:53 PM

Hello everyone
I'm using a Lenovo Z510 with i5 4th gen, 2GB GT740M and 4 GB RAM.
I have observed that while my laptop is not plugged into charging, the games are not running smoothly. I compared this with Lenovo S510p, which is a lot cheaper than mine (though its got 2GB GT820M) and was shocked to see that all the games that were lagging on my laptop are running smoothly on it with higher graphic settings than mine.
I am talking about games like NFS Most Wanted 2012 and NFS Rivals here.
But yes, the games do run perfectly when the laptop is plugged into charging.

Hi,

Might want to do a little bit of research first.

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GT-750M-vs-GeForce-820M

750m is the better card here, and the reason that your laptop downclocks itself and performs badly (as intended) when the power brick is unplugged is because your battery on the laptop can not supply enough voltage to the graphics card by itself to perform at its maximum. There is nothing you can do about it really and even if it did work just like it did plugged in your battery probably wouldn't last more than 20 minutes unplugged and playing.

Just like if my y510 with SLI didn't use a 170w power brick or the power brick was unplugged I lose a whole graphics card and about half of the first card.

So maybe the reason for better wireless performance from cheaper laptops is that they have a better battery than my machine. :smileysad:

Laptops with high-powered GPU's will not work at 100% perfromance using battery. You can force it to use high power setting on battery using Nvidiainspector, but it can be dangerous and is not advised.
