Smooth out textured touchpad?

2010-10-05, 15:19 PM

I have a y550 with the textured touchpad. I hate how my fingers get sore (even with super high sensitivity) and by the end of the day, I am using my pinkies.

Is there a way to smooth out these bumps without messing up how the pad reacts to touch? I am afraid that something like a metal brush or sand paper would mess up my touchpad, but my figures are just so tired.

The touchpad is physically bumpy. It isn't a driver issue or software issue. Just that it hurts my fingers.

Yeah like you said I wouldn't try a sander. From the many keyboards I have been seen, they tend to smooth out in the same spots used over and over, example spacebar where my thumb sits and the usb mouse click buttons where my fingers sit. Just maybe a few or more minutes with a buffer could smooth it out over time.

Hello,

I am not sure what effect, if any, this will have, but have you considered placing a piece aftermarket LCD screen protector material (usually sold for smartphones, GPSes and so forth) over the touchpad area to smooth it out?  I would imagine this would cause some loss of sensitivity at the very least, but you may be able to increase it via software.
