Touchpad inconsistent/screen turns off

2012-12-21, 15:28 PM

I have 2 problems relating to the Touchpad: on a Z580

  1. It often seems to freeze the screen. This most often occurs after 'painting' in a range, ready to copy or cut. Whilst the scroll bars of thw window work OK, I cannot get any activity from the actual Window itself.
  2. The screen will randomly go off, then come back on a few seconds later. This happens when on mains and appears to have a higher incidence of occuring when touching the left click button (sometimes just touching is enough)

Lenovo Customer support suggested it might be a driver issue (I don't seen this myslef), but I have checked and th elatest drivers are installed.

I note on other reviews that several other people seem to have issues with the Touchpad.

Please Lenovo, take this issue seriously and provide a proper solution, especially to the random screen switch off.

hi DRW14, Welcome to the Lenovo Community. For the first issue, you can try to reboot the computer in Safe Mode (requires a restart and continuously press F8) and try to test. If the issue persist, you can try to check if there's an issue with the hard drive by running the Lenovo HDD Diagnostic here - http://tinyurl.com/bmfm7qs or use UltimateBooTCD (www.ultimatebootcd.com) (faulty hard drive mostly causes freezing up issue) If you don't get an error, there's a possible problem internally on the PC and you need to contact Lenovo for service. From the second issue that you describe,, it looks like there's a probable short on the cable connections inside. The screen problem that suddenly it turns itself off when you left click must have been caused by the Touchpad chip touching the motherboard too much that it causes it to short. You can also try to reboot the computer in Safe Mode (requires a restart and continuously press F8) and try to test If the issue persist. If it does, you need to contact Lenovo for service. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I would much prefer to use your suggested Lenovo solution, but http://tinyurl.com/bmfm7qs does not list the Z580, so I presume it is not appropriate? Can you please point me to a diagnostic that specifically lists the Z580.

Many thanks.

hi DRW14, The Lenovo Diagostic Softwares can be ran on Think and Idea line products. If you get any error running any of the diagnostic apps, You could use UltimateBootCD (www.ultimatebootcd.com) for the diagnostics. Click here - http://tinyurl.com/bmkk8pp - for details. Video usage here- http://tinyurl.com/c5m7wnu.and http://tinyurl.com/coek9vl - Hope this helps.
