Undersensitive Keyboard

2021-01-11, 9:39 AM

I have a ThinkPad P52 with premier support.

So this is a little bit hard to describe, but basically on my keyboard, pressing down a key until it clicks isn't enough to register input; the key needs to click and then a tiny bit more pressure needs to be added for it to work. It's hard to notice the behavior at first but it quickly became a problem I've yet to solve. It's particularly frustrating with the Alt+Tab gesture, as any minute release in pressure (not enough for the key to click back up) terminates the task switcher view.

I've had a support technician replace the keyboard once already with no change whatsoever, and I'm hoping that maybe it's a software issue but i haven't managed to find a setting in either Lenovo Vantage or Windows to makes a difference.

Has anyone else experienced this on any other of the P series ThinkPads (or any other think pad for that matter), and is there a fix?

Hi Orcapromethana,

 Welcome to the Lenovo Community

I suggest that you check back with the technical support team for your region using the previous case number and have them informed. Based on your description, it appears that this may be something physical when pressing the key.

Hope this helps

Just to check whether it is an issue with the current Windows installation or the hardware, have you tried booting the ThinkPad P52 from a USB flash drive with Linux on it and then using the keyboard for a bit to see if the keypresses behave differently?  Since you are booting from an entirely different operating system, this can help rule out the possibility of it being an issue with the Windows installation on the internal drive.
