Upgrade Onekey Recovery

2014-03-03, 14:51 PM

I have bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 and i have one doubt.

Can I upgrade the OneKey IMG with a new Instalation of Windows 8?... Example...

Originally it came with Windows 8 SL, and i purchased Windows 8.1 Pro. I wanna add this new license and windows version as default on OneKey Recovery. It this possible?.

Thanks you,

Regards

Hi Jose,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to inform you that the Recovery Media should be created before upgrading to Windows 8.1 as the OKR image cannot be upgraded and below is the link with all the upgrade details and resources.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

That is considering you were able to upgrade successfully and no partition resizing occurred you can update the okr image to whatever is running presently. The only problem is the restoration.

Hi LenBlazer,

Thank you for providing the valuable information, but creating the Recovery Media before upgrading to Windows 8.1 is the best option to avoid any re-installation related issues.

Cheers!:smileyhappy:

Note that the question raised by the op is about the OKR image and not the program itself. There is already a copy of the image in the hidden folder before the update. When one updates to 8.1 this image file set is not actually updated because it has nothing to do with the process. When one wants to restore after the update it is restored to Win 8 and not 8.1.

Whether you update or not, you are not restricted to make another okr backup image. In fact you can make as many copies as you like. However, as stated earlier when you are in Win 8.1 and had made the backup image, restoration is a problem. As what I have experience it resulted to what is popularly called automatic repair loop problem.

Hi Jose,

If the OS (Operating System) is upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office is installed creating the USB recovery drive should backup both the OS and the Office in the drive. Below is the link to create USB recovery for Windows 8.1

Do post us back for further queries.
