Urgent Help in my Y500

2013-02-27, 4:28 AM

Hi,

I bought a Y500 a week back in india..my backlit keyboard doesnt seem to work. Should i install a driver or how do i make it work?? Sorry if its so silly but when i switch on my laptop its lights on and then goes off thats all !!

And in my Nvidia control panel i see available graphics memory as 4GB so does it mean that i have an SLI card installed in my ultrabay??

But i am not able to detect in my Device Manager..its not in there..and how do i update my graphicsdriver..when i download the update it says graphics card not at all found !!! m soo confused !!

When i play game on battery it lags soo much..when i connect my power chord i get ultimate performance..i chaged the power management settings in the Nvidia control panel too but it doesnt seem to help !!!

Kindly help me pls

Hi
Welcome to the forums
The backlight is user controlable. It doesn't automatically switch on or off. Only time it switches on is while booting. To switch on keyboard backlight, you have to press Fn+space and that should do. Use the same to turn off when not in use.
To check if you have sli ie you have dual graphics, just check if you have a cd rom in my computer.
On updating the graphic driver, i would suggest you leave it as it is since updating can even ruin performance so rather keep as it is.
On lag on battery, i wont be of much help since many others are facingthe same but there hasn't been a resolution.
Regards

According to the User's Guide the keyboard backlight is controlled by Fn+SPACE.  Fn+F5 toggles airplane mode.

The UG also implies that not all models have a backlit keyobard.

Hi
You can only have one thing in the ultrabay. Either it coulf be a cd rom, a gpu or a hdd caddy. On the left side, there is only the fan vents for the internal gpu and the cpu. No doubt you dont have sli.
On the 4 gb thing, could you use gpu-z to monitor the gpu memory? It should be 2gb. And same implies for sli also. It has an independent 2gb but is shown separately in the nvidia control panel.
