Why need update BIOS on laptop

2008-10-20, 9:18 AM

Hai, dear all friends,

I have read some of topic forum here, some of the friends if have some problem with the system, there're going to own download upgrade/update the bios without have specific reason  (except some model lenovo request for upgrade bios.)

My question is, why we need to upgrade bios ?  Can anyone give reason of advantages of upgrade bios ?

As what i know if ones upgrade Bios cannot return back to previous version if i not mistaken... it's a risk to upgrade bios ?

Once I had an interesting case - a broken motherboard (ASUS btw). It looked allright but had a micro-hole somewhere on textolyte. When it warmed up - it disappeared and motherboard worked fine. But until that everything was Ok but *.bmp-files. Any attempt to open a BMP-file caused BSOD.

Case was funny.

New BIOSes are fixing various issues. maybe you've not encountered for now - but where is a guarantee that you'll not encounter them in future?

Also BIOSes provide support of new processors, but it is not so important in laptops.

There is a smart rule for upgrading BIOS: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
