Windows 7 64bit Freezes y430--Unknown Devices

2010-01-02, 6:24 AM

I have just upgraded my Ideapad y430 Win 7 64 bit (clean install from vista 32 bit) and am now experiencing some of the same freezing issues others have had. The OS works fine for some periods of time, but then inexplicably freezes.

I have two unknown devices

ACPI\CPL0002

ACPI\VPC2004

I have tried installing the ACPI driver from y530 page to no avail ... I get a driver failed to install error message. Also, I have removed the Lenovo Energy Management Program as this seemed to cause the freezing earlier (after tinkering with the programs in safe mode, found that the os always froze when this program was running).

These are the extra drivers I have recently installed (post upgrade):

ACPI Driver--Error failed to install

Conexant Audio Driver

Intel Chipset Device Software

Lenovo Energy Management--(uninstalled application)

Lenovo Energy Management Driver

MCE Remote Controller Driver

O2 Micro Flash Memory Card Reader Driver

O2 Micro Flash Memory Card Reader Driver ... (it's in my C://Drivers folder twice)

Winbond CIR Driver

Any ideas?

UPDATE:

re-installed Lenovo Energy Management application. This enabled Win7 to recognize one of the unknown devices.

The only remaining unknown device is

ACPI\CPL0002

Still need help!

It's probably the Conexant driver that is causing the freezing, at least it was for me.

Thanks!

At this point, the freezing seems to have stopped. I simply re-installed the Energy Management driver. Working on two days with no freezes and lots of use. Everything seems great ... will be back if it freezes again.

Great - does the Dolby Control Center launch when you push the heat-sensitive Dolby button?

How did you fix it? I think audio driver is causing my Windows 7 64-bit to freeze. When I uninstall sound drivers, laptop works fine. And when I install audio drivers, the laptop freezes randomly.
