Windows 8 Rapid Drive Driver?

2013-01-06, 20:31 PM

Hi,

Is there a link for the Rapid Drive driver for Windows 8 for the Ideapad Y580?  When will this driver become available?

Thanks.

Actually, I know these drivers are available on the Intel Download Center site.  But what I am looking for is the Lenovo driver to bind together an mSATA drive and the HDD into a logical unit.  Since the Y580 has a HM76 chipset without RAID support, the only way to get the Intel IRST Rapid Storage Technology driver to work and "accelerate" disk access is if you at Lenovo provide the Rapiddrive driver for Windows 8, as you did for Windows 7.

The links you provided are not useful unless you can provide the Rapiddrive driver to unite a partition of the HDD with the mSATA SSD, immediately after installing the OS to the mSATA drive, but prior to installing the drivers you mention.

I've been waiting for appropriate drivers since October! There is no excuse for this long of a delay! Is anyone there actually listening to the complaints?

Hi

The drivers which I have provided are from Lenovo for Y580 only.

The correct sequence of steps for restoring the Cache SSD with the Intel® Rapid Start Technology partition:

1. Launch the Intel® RST GUI and click the ‘Acceleration’ button at the top of the GUI
2. Click Enable acceleration
3. Select the SSD and 18.6GB for the Cache size (this will create a cache volume size 18.6GB + data volume size 11GB)
4. Select the Acceleration mode (Maximized or Enhanced) and complete the Acceleration.
5. Once the Acceleration-enabling operation is complete you can partition any portion of the 11GB data volume for Intel® Rapid Start Technology

Note: The user can select any size of the 11GB data volume that they wish for the Rapid Start partition. Any space unused can be partitioned in Disk Manager for additional data storage space. As far as performance, there should not be much difference if any between the cache size of 18.6GB and the original 22GB.

Ensure RAID is selected under Storage > SATA option

Do give this a try and let us know

Hope This Helps

Cheers!!!

I have my original Windows 7 setup and went to check if RST is working correctly. There is no "Acceleration" button on top of the GUI. Does my RST work or is my SSD just sitting there doing nothing?

Exactly- this process should be identical for Windows 7.  I am asking about the Rapid Drive driver for Windows 8 because one is required for Windows 7.  I have made the mistake of installing the Intel RST driver onto Windows 7 without previously installing Lenovo's Rapid Drive for Windows 7, and so there is no "accelerate" tab.

I don't want to make the same mistake twice so- when will Lenovo release a Rapid Drive driver for Windows 8?

I don't have a RAID option, and my BIOS is currently set to the default value of AHCI.

Re: Windows 8 Rapid Drive Driver?

Hi there,

Once you remove the rapid drive from the rapiddrive tool as provided by Lenovo and install Windows 8 then the option to accelerate with Intel RST does not appear at all.

I have tried this with Microsoft support as well as Intel support (on my Ideapad Y580 via remote desktop control) and the option does not come up.

Even trying the floppy drivers (as per intel tech support) during install has not helped as we don't have the option to set them as RAID drives in the BIOS only AHCI.

Could you please give us details as to how to set up the system to make the accelerate option appear.

Most of us have 32GB mSata SSD + 1 TB HDD.

So how should we partition the drives both the SSD as well as HDD to get that option of accelerate to appear. Also how do we get the rapid start to work as on installing it, it clearly mentions that the system is not compatible with rapid start and then exits without installing. Do we need to use the floppy loading driver or is it immaterial.

Currently I am using the Diskeeper express cache which provides some semblance of acceleration but not as it was before.

Your help would be really appreciated as most of us who have upgraded to Windows 8 or even downgraded back to Win7 have lost a major functionality of our systems.

A step by step guide from RAW SSD + HDD to installing Win8 and then using Intel Rapid start + Rapid storage would really help atleast a 100 users on the Lenovo Community.

Regards

Ideapad Y 580
Core i7 3630, 8Gb 1600Mhz, 1TB HDD + 32GB mSata SSD, 1920x1080.... BDRW.....
Win 7 for now ......... till Lenovo gives us Rapid Drive on Win 8 ;-)
