Re: Wireless Display (WIDI) issue on ideapad Y500

2013-01-17, 19:53 PM

FWIY I just got off the phone with post sales support - 866-428-4465, and they approved a return and credit almost immediately.  Fortunately I had originally reported my WiDi issues within the 21 day return period.  Not sure what the return policy on this will be for you that are outside the 21 day return window.

Good luck!

The problem is that some of us called and asked sales support to confirm if he Y500 had WiDi and they said yes. It's not like we didn't try to verify iit.

MARK: For those of us who made the purchase from Lenovo.com, can you provide us with some kind of confirmation that will help us to get a refund from post-sales? They are completely clueless and I'm dreading picking up that phone.

+1 I would like to have this info too. My computer is at the RMA "depot" now for the touch pad issue and they can just keep it, I just want my $ back asap.

I hope that the y500 will support hd4000. I think it may be a dealbreaker for me. Sad to here that almost all the reps who were selling the laptop said that it would support it. The battery life on y500 is on the low side. It would be nice to get another hour or two with just a bios update with hd4000.

I am now embedded in the quagmire of Lenovo support and returns. I called sales and was given a return number, however my laptop is at the depot for the touch pad issue, and the warehouse can’t just get it from the depot. They said I need to call the depot and ask for the laptop back (.Call time total 12 min)

I called the depot, they had none of the sales notes in their system, placed me on several 2-3minuite hold holds to figure out what to do (call time total 16min). They sent a few internal emails and now I must wait 2-3buisness days for a case manager to call me, even though my ra number and shipping label are only good for 10 days (calendar).

None of the support systems seem to be connected there is no coordination or total customer service model, this is yet another disappointment beyond the false specs and faulty hardware and lack of preinstalled SD drivers.

What Lenovo should understand that in some cases they are not just upsetting a single customer. Some of us have day jobs where we make the purchase decisions for our companies. A negative impression can end up with a very high opportunity cost.

I agree with EvanB. I made this purchase pretty much for company use. I did my return request on Jan 9th, but didn't get approval to reorder a new system from my company until this week. So now I'm stuck with labels and can't return the Y500 yet because I need it to remote in to do a payroll on Feb 4. My y580 had an original ship date of 1/19, but I couldn't find the order in the system until yesterday after ordering it on 1/15. Now the ship date is 2/4. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Was hoping to get the y500 returned after the other system shipped and made sure it was working. Looks like I'll be on the phone arguing with someone after I get the y580 so I can get the y500 returned for credit.

I'm looking at the HP site, comparable system, with ship date of 1/29. Stuck stuck stuck.

+1 to everything stated. Lenovo has failed miserably with this one. I hope this catches on and knocks lenovo down a peg. So much for the strong market share gain in Oct 12. Buy an HP save yourself the aggravation!

HP Code: PC5831 25% off customs 1099+ Good till 1/20.

What to do ? How to get refund since I'm out of 21 windows??

FAILED Lenovo False Advertisement + FAILED Y500!!

LENOVO OFFER NO compensation to those who purchased Y500 because of the Wrong advertisement!!

I don't know what to do with this fail laptop:

-Keyboard Problem + Mouse Problem + Widi Lacking

in the website, I still see widi is standard for Y500..

Does that mean Y500 now come with Widi ?

@kyw012: I wouldn't count on it coming with WiDi yet. That's probably something that they didn't remove from the website. What is the URL?

By the way, guys, as far as WiDi there are some alternatives to that technology that can be used to connect wirelessly instead. HP Wireless Connect 2, Warpia, a few others...I may just keep the laptop now that the touchpad is fine and wait for one of these alternatives. I also imagine there will be some new ones, too. Most work with a usb dongle on the laptop and some of the reviews are good in terms of frame rate, delay, etc.

(I realize this doesn't address the power saving advantage of HD4000/Optimus).

AAAARGGHHH

I think I spoke too soon. It feels like the laptop is heating up and it's kind of got that electrical fires smell... anybody having overheating problems? It's only been on for 2 and a half hours

I really thought I was going to give up and WiDi and keep this machine, but now I am worried that we'll just keep finding more problems.
