Would Lenovo Y50 will still work if I remove the battery?

2014-09-18, 4:38 AM

Hello, I use the computer for a long time (1-8 hours) to do work, that why I prefer to use the plug compare to battery,
(Since most battery on less maximum 2 hour) but due to Lenovo Y50 doesn't include removable battery [battery sealing in the chassis], so I have to use battery (while it full) & only use the plug for charging. This really bother me because as far sa i know if you use plug + battery at the same times or overcharge your battery (while it you use it), it will damage your battery life or your laptop.

So, I would like to ask, can Lenovo Y50 still fuction just by using plug without battery in it?

Thank You

Hi LV7,

Welcome to Lenovo forums

As I understood that you are facing the issue with the battery of your Y50 laptop.

As you have mentioned about the battery backup, you can change the battery setting in the energy management

To 50%, as when the battery drains to 50% it automatically notifies and auto charges. By this method you can save the battery life.

As you have planned to use the system only with the adapter, yes you can use but if there is power cut then the system will turn off so its better to use the system woith the battery.

Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.

Best regards,

Hi LV7,

Welcome to Lenovo forums

As I understand that you are facing issue with system not booting.

As you want to work only with the adapter, yes ypou can use the system only to adapter but  I would not suggest you to work in this way because if there is a cut in power supply this might damage the system hence I would like to suggest you is to use both battery and adapter so that the system will not be harmed.

Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.

Best regards,

Chances are it'll work without a battery, but if you're using a less than adequate power supply, the machine might throttle the CPU because it can't supplement with power from a battery.

W520: 2960XM, Q2000M @ 1091/1380, 32GB RAM, 500GB&750GB HDD & 500GB SSD, FHD&MB168B+
X61T: L7500, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, XGA screen, Ultrabase
W550s: 5600U, K620M at 1164/1281, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 3K touchscreen
X200s: SL9400, 6GB RAM, 64GB SD card, WXGA+ screen
