Y 550 AC adapter noise

2009-05-16, 4:19 AM
I just received the Y550 today. Every time that I plug in or unplug the AC adapter, the speakers make a loud beeping sound. The sound does not get quieter when the volume is turned down. The only way to keep the noise from occurring is to mute the entire computer completely. I tried the fix that describes muting the PC Beep sound, but that did not work. I also went into the BIOS settings, but there was no advanced features tab to disable the sound. Does anyone know of a way to shut the noise off without having to mute the entire system?

I'm sorry that this is irrelevant to what you're asking, but was your keyboard for the y550 white? or gray?

Try this...

 1. Go to Device Manager …

2. (the trick !!) Show Hidden Devices. (Look in the menu … View -> Show hidden devices).

3. In the “Non-Plug and Play Drivers” section, you will find a “Beep” driver … double click on it to open the properties - then click on the “Driver” tab in the properties dialog.

4. Click on the “Stop” button to turn it off now, and set the Startup Type to “Disabled” to prevent it starting again.

By the way... can you post some pics ot your Y550?? I wanna see the keyboard.

Thanks

Thanks for your help, but there is nothing that includes the word "beep" in the place that was described. There are pictures of the Y550 in the gallery on the lenovo website.

I'm having the same problem. I was able to follow the instructions above but there's no "beep" driver. I also checked the BIOS and the other startup options. I have system sounds on mute and I also tried looking for anything under the power options menu. Can anyone help?
