Y410 hibernates due to critical battery used the laptop for only 40min even in PowerSaver mode.

Does anybody have this same issue?

My battery indicator states, it could still last for 2 hours and 30 minutes after i pulled the ac adaptor. I was only doing surfing and word processing, after 40mins minutes the laptop hibernates even though the battery indicator still in green color. When I replugged the ac adaptor, it says "battery in critical level" during boot and when in Windows, battery is already empty in the indicator. What happened? Is there a way to check if the battery is still functioning well? or is there a way to check its charge cycle or to calibrate it? I bought this laptop April of 2008, I know I am already pass the 1 year warranty but my macbook gen 1 bought Nov 2007 can still pack a 2 hours of use for a full charge. I use both laptop.
