Y410p Brain Dead

2015-01-12, 20:20 PM

Hello,

A few days ago my less-than-a-year-old Ideapad Y410p was working fine, (though occasionally when it goes to sleep it gets stuck  on a black screen the power button pulsing but won't wake up, so I have to force shut off). Then the other day I put it in sleep mode, came back an hour later, and it was again, stuck in sleep mode, except this time it was different. The button was not pulsing and the computer wasn't making any noise/heart at all, and the screen was still black. When I tried to power off manually by holding down the button, as I've had to before, it did not work. Eventually I had to remove the battery, and it finally shut down. After waiting a little while, I put the battery back in and tried to restart, but now the monitor doesn't even turn on. Basically what happens is the power button itself will light up (but not pulse or flash), as will the power and battery indicator lights on the bottom edge of the device (so I don't think battery is a problem), but the computer won't start. The screen won't turn on and there is no heat/whirring/ noise of any sort to indicate that anything is happening. Needless to say, any of the usual icons and screens do not appear, preventing me from starting in safe mode or anything like that. It is basically brain-dead

Any thoughts?

1) Try to start your laptop with ONLY Battery attached.

2) Try to start your laptop with ONLY power supply attached (no battery)

3) Try a BIOS reset

- Disconnect all power supply and battery

- Press Power button for 40 seconds

- Connect everything and try to start

Let me know if any of those 3 methods show any improvement.

Question - Do you hear the fan? Do you feel any heat on the side of the laptop?

Hi,

I tried all of those things, and nothing. I can't even do BIOS because the screen doesn't display anything, regardless of whether I toggle it or not. There is no fan and no heat.

EDIT

Shutdown the laptop, no lights on.

Have you tried pushing the NOVO button? Does it do anything?

You should probably call Lenovo and ask for warranty support.

If you dont have warranty and dont want to send to lenovo then just get it checked by a local tech.

Hi

Welcome to the forum!!!

Alternatively, you can try Swapping/removing and reinserting the RAM sticks once. It might help since it did work once in my y560 in an almost similar situation. You can refer to the hardware mainenance manual for some help regarding removing the ram sticks,

http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_y410p_y510p_hmm.pdf

You can also try a different ram if you have a spare(the configs of both the ram should be same, check before inserting it)

If it doesn't help, then you should take your laptop to the service centre, they should be able to help

Hope this Helps!!
