Y460 Problem with wireless connectivity.

2011-01-07, 9:48 AM
1st there is no problem with my wirelesses router. Symptoms - We use skype a lot and the call keeps getting dropped. Often the computer looses connection with the modem. When the computer looses connection with the router you cannot even search and reconnect. Sometimes you can switch off the wireless and when you turn back on it will connect and other times it wont. When the wireless is having problems it causes the computer to lag. The lag is in the keyboard, touch pad and a usb mouse. I checked the website for driver updates and when I try to update it says the driver in my computer is newer. Any ideas before I have to call tech support?

I didn't have much time before going to work to check but I think it is an Intel pro chipset.

Hello mate,

You can try in the Device Manager, to go in the properties of your card and untick the box allow this device to be turned off to save power and you can try to set up the roaming agressiveness and transmit power on high.

y460 wifi problem

2011-03-31, 5:22 AM

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have any suggestions? Suddenly if I move more than 2 feet from my wireless router, I lose my connection. I can't figure out the problem and know it's not an issue with the router, as we have two other laptops that connect anywhere within our house, as well as a PS3 and two phones. Sitting right next to it, I can successfully ping the router ip address but as soon as I turn around or back away from the router with my laptop in hand  I get "request timed out" and sure enough, as soon as I turn back around or walk back to the router, it picks back up. I just flashed the BIOS but that didn't work and all of my drivers appear to date. Thinking it might have been an update, I even rolled back the system files to a date before this began.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ended up calling support late last night and the long and short of it was that I ended up shipping out mine for repairs this morning. The tech suspected a faulty wifi card.
