Y460P : Can no longer recognize wireless connections

2012-07-14, 8:09 AM

I was staying at some **bleep**ty lodge, and my laptop could find the wireless network and connect to it, but it was extremely unstable and i couldn't even check my email. The owner insisted the problem was on my end, and i thought he was just pushing the blame onto me.

Now im staying at another place with decent internet, and the wifi is working for my flatmate...i can even connect to it using a direct cable connection (which is how im typing this now) but my laptop simply will not locate any wireless networks. My phone can connect to the apartment's wireless network just fine though, and the network is broadcasting openly. My phone actually sees a ton of wireless networks in the area, including my university's wifi network...but my laptop sees nothing.

Things i have done :

-Disabling/enabling the wireless adapter

-Turning the wireless adapter on/off via the switch on the laptop casing

-Windows troubleshooter (useless as usual)

-Added the wireless network manually, but the laptop still can't see it

-Checked device manager, no errors, no conflicts, etc

-Nothing in event viewer

Any ideas on what could be the cause?

Why would iwant to reinstall windows (Which would presumably screw up the partitions again) just to fix a problem with the wireless switch on the front of the laptop not working?

Btw the switch is working now after i use FN+F5 to turn it on manually.

Erm...i just ran the windows troubleshooter via network and sharing center -> wireless network adapter, and it tells me my wireless capability is turned off.

But my switch is set to the on position and the little graphic in the lower right confirms that. Ive tried turning it off/on multiple times to no effect.

Whats going on?

Dear Lenovo User ,

Please do One Key Recovery initial restore , let us know problem is persists.

How to do one key recovery :

Shut Down the computer. Find the one key recovery button on keyboard area and press on it. It should be look like this below. Then you will see windows is loading files , after that you will see OKR environment. Choose One Key Recovery and Make Restore Intial Back up . Before doing steps , you should back up your personal data photos documents etc if they are on C Drive. Your D drive will not effected by initial restore you can back up  if you dont have external storage device. Let me know if there is something not clear.

One key recovery doesnt work if you partition the drives, which is what almost everyone does...
